A buddy is about to have his camaro painted and has some concerns. He had to pull the car from the first shop due to a few problems, but the first painter did get it primed with DP90. The car still needs to be blocked and sealed, which his new painter is about to start on. The problem my friend has though is that he really likes the Dupont super jet black chroma base/clear. His new painter only uses PPG and is a rep for PPG, and is hesitant to use the Dupont products.
Will there be compatibility issues with PPG primers/sealers and Dupont Base/Clear?
Is there a PPG color that matches the Dupont super jet black?
Any other concerns?

I don't see any compabality issues. I personally like the ppg single stage mixed with ppg clear (it is allowed in the data sheets. I forgot the ppg number, I think it is dcc 9700 if I'm not mistaken. The ppg clear that I used with it was either 2021 or 2046. I did a black mustang and had a tinted black urathane primer, once it was sanded with 500 grit, I mixed the single stage paint which I think was a 4parts paint, 2 parts reducer, and 1 part activator (I use dcx61 I think), then mixed the clear which was 4:1:1 ratio, then poured them in a container together and shook/mixed it, layed about three to four coats on, then gave it a relly good sand and buff and it looked like a mirror and had great depth and gloss. It covered instantly over my black primer. You could get away with 2 coats, but if you put an extra 1-2 coats, it will allow it to be really sanded down smooth for a great smooth finish then a buff without worring about burning through. Mention this to your ppg guy and I can find out the exact paint numbers if you want, I have to find my paperwork. A guy I know did his '72 Monte Carlo the same way and it looked amazing. If I'm not mistaken, there are newer lines of ppg paint out, not sure if they still make the dcc or the 2021 clear. good luck and let me know what he says about the single stage mixed with clear. It should only be done with solid colors, no metallics.

PPG is the paint OE on BMW, Audi, & Porsche. I haven't seen a bad coating yet.

The only problem you may have is a warrenty issue by using a different product under the paint my buddy calls this a sandwich. I have used PPG products for most of the paint work I've done and loved it,I painted my 69 with Glasuret the clear I used has about the best UV rating on the market *I not sure of the UV comparison from PPG to Dupont...

If the DP is good and dry, shouldnt be a problem putting DuPont over it. The reps will always tell you thats its a no-no.
The closest thing that PPG has to the DuPont 605 toner is the Global 789(I think thats the number).
