Could I get a few opinions on this motor that is for sale?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190216657173&rd=1

In the list of questions, the seller can't figure out that the first number in the VIN sequence is a 5. Cast date 10/17/68 - build date 10/18/68 - VIN 528866. My motor is cast 10/17/68 - build 10/19/68 - VIN 533186. Do these two motors support each other with respect to the quantity of motors built per day? Does the stamp look original? I thought I saw this motor stamp in another thread about a high priced Z. The head looks like January but I can't tell if it's an 8 or a 9. One date would be a stretch and the other wrong. Am I looking at this correctly?
I was considering bidding on it and wanted to know what the experts thought. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

This may be a period correct motor for my car and built on my b-day , The vin you posted is before my 12A car. Does this motor bare any Vin on it? Based on e-bay questions posted, I would say the vin on this motor 528866 plus the 9N in front. Guessing here. Seller does not post pictures of engine stamp pad.

Not an expert here but someone will chime in.

Well, as for the heads, they could have been swapped out along the engine's journey. The discrepancy in the VINs with same day cast date is interesting to say the least

The VINs seem to be in range according to CRG, check this link out:

http://www.camaros.org/geninfo.shtml#HowMany

It looks like 10/1 thru 10/31/68 VIN range is 512xxx-530xxx
11/1 thru 11/30 VIN range is 530xxx-551xxx

So would an engine built 10/19/68 sit until the first week of Nov 68?

Was there a subprogram at the Flint plant for engines that were somehow out of spec at time of assembly and had to be diverted in order to be brought into spec which might explain why an engine might be a week or two behind what we would expect? Or a engine specific parts shortage?

May this be a reason why my car ordered in Oct 1968 was delayed in shipping? I have heard stories about some type of problems that caused my car to be recieved last week of Dec 68.

I don't see the VIN stamped on the engine pad. An Oct. car would have been stamped there.

The pad stamp for review. It was posted in another thread: "......... I know the 1018 one is real, the other is questionable."
