I am running a TKO600 behind a ZZ502 with no problems. Check out wrightconnection.net

Talk to Craig. He really knows his stuff and has been a ton of help to us on all of our Muncie and Tremec transmissions.

Simply put, a TKO is the best 5 speed that you can buy.

It all depends on the clutch and tires.
If it's only street use, with street tires, the trans will never see your full power potential. Your tires will spin first.

If you put on slicks and hit a well prept track, with a street type clutch, that could be a problem. If it hooks!

Do you have an adjustable clutch?

The TKO is a great street car trans, and they can be modifiied for track use.
If you plan on drag racing the TKO, an adjustable clutch will save things.

For a drag car 5 speed the TKO comes in after, either of the Libertys, the Gf5r or GF2000 G-Force tranys, the Jerico, and even a well prept Nash.

As always JMHO.

We have been selling quite a few TKO 600s and our 5 speed conversion kits. And I have these kits personally in a few cars right here in town that blow the factory rating away. If you go to my ProdigyCustoms.com website you will see 3 cars with them that I have right here under my thumb. Project Prodigy has a TKO600 behind all aluminum 540CI.Project Prodigy made 684HP on the engine dyno. We have exploded the rear end in it, but the transmission is fine. There are 2 cars on there, a red 67 Chevelle and a black 57 Chevy, which we did for 2 brother inlaws with identical all aluminum 572CI / 754HP and 758 HP respectively, each broke 700 LB TQ. Both cars have our TKO 600 conversion kits in them. The Chevelle grenaded the stock 12 bolt rear end on the dyno at 585 HP at the tires before we got it tuned. Now with the new Moser 33 spline 12 Bolt all is OK!

All of these cars are run hard; some even drag raced occasionally on street tires. None have ever run with slicks. I suspect that the heaver cars with slicks could damage the transmission side stepping the clutch at 5000 RPMs repeadily. But on the street, or even the drag strip, the tires give way before the transmission, even with 315 to 345 tires respectively.

Frank,

I used ta slide outta the hole when I was a kid w/ my Mom's el-cheapo, '65, Custom 300, 4-dr, 195hp/283, 3 on the tree when I drug it w/ my recap real 8.00 or 8.50/14 slicks on it to keep from shocking the drive train.

Are you saying that if I dump it the same way that the trans will be almost bullet-proof behind a HEALTHY BB?

I'd bring her up ta say 35 to 4,000 rpm and gently let her eat type of easy clutch action here is what I'm trying to say..

I never liked the side step crap at rpm after I did it once or twice is why I went this launch technique.

Ya, that works too. I'm just NOT that good:o at it.

I leave off a two-step at 6300 rpm, peg it, and dump it:thumbsup:

I have a customer who has been running a TKO600 for more than 2 years with a 871 blower on a 540 hemi in a Road Runner. This car is heavy, has lots of tire and is driven like it was stolen. The owner has gone through a street twin clutch, a Dana60 and has never done any damage to the TKO. I have sold thousands of those transmissions and I feel like the Maytag Man when it comes to complaints. Strong tranny. 'Nuff said.
