How many of you guys have the option where you have to have it in reverse to get the key out of the ignition? How many cars have this? Haven't seen much info on it....

Not an option... it was standard on all 69s.


The mode of operation you describe applies to 69 model year cars equipped with manual trans. There is a rod attached to the reverse lever on the trans that rotates a bellcrank mounted on the frame, and then another rod connected to the tab on the engine side of the steering column rotates the tube inside the column to the position which allows the key to be removed.

69 auto trans cars had it too, but trans had to be in park. Just the govt way of making sure we all stayed safe...

A lot of them got lost when headers were installed, but that's tough too, cause that same rod works the backup light switch!

Just the key on autos, both the key and b/u lights on manuals :thumbsup:

Don't the column shift autos have the NSS/backup light swith on the column??
