What is your proposed budget in accomplishing this ?? duce Apr 27th, 08, 06:56 PM money not a issue,i have a ford 9in rear end out of a 82 v-8 mustang,i measured from backing plate to backing plate and there right on,i installed new five leaf on rear layed rear end up on leafs and mounting brackets on the ford 9 in fell right in centering pins, just seems to dam easy, some has got to be wrong i'am not that lucky, duce Rodder Apr 27th, 08, 10:40 PM I'm running a 9" in my '68, but it's a Moser housing that's built to bolt in to a 1st gen F-body. Steve69SS396 Apr 27th, 08, 10:52 PM The first housing I put in my '69 was from a '67 Mustang. It was 3/4" narrower than the stock rear and all I had to do was move the spring perches on the housing. camaro major Apr 27th, 08, 11:32 PM One thing to look into is the axle spline count. To handle the hp that we all want, get a 31 spline at a minimum. While a 28 spline can handle a bit of abuse (high 12's with a sbc) a 31 will give you insurance. Or if you Really plan on high horses, a 35 or 40 spline... DOUG G Apr 29th, 08, 03:50 PM Just found this and have no idea how accurate.... 1957-59 Ford = 57 1/4" 60-64 Ford = 59 1/2" 57-59 Ranchero & SW = 57 1/4" 1964-71 Full sized cars = 61" 1979-81 Lincoln Versailles = 58 1/2" 1972-79 Ford intermediate & Full Size = 63" 70-79 Ranchero - Torino = 63" 73-86 Pickup = 65" 57-72 half-ton pickup = 61 1/4" 73-86 half-ton pickup = 65 1/4" 66-77 Bronco = 58" 1977-86 Ford F-150, Bronco = 65 1/4" 1977-86 Ford E-150 = 69 1/4" 77-81 Granada - Versailles = 58 1/2" Comes in Disk Brake also 67-70 Mustang - Cougar - Fairlane - Comet = 59 1/4"* (very popular) 70-73 Mustang family = 61 1/4"* * Denotes gray area involving some of the earlier part being found on 70 Model year cars. Note: After 1970 all axles were the 31 spline style big axles. For 28 spline units the last 4 inchs were machined down for the 28 spline ends. If you shorten the axles more than 4 inches they are enough to make 31 spline. |
