smith69z Apr 27th, 08, 01:20 PM Engine is a real DZ. Owner has POP and original bill of sale. Block was decked and only restamped for reference. Original car crashed years ago.
68z28sd Apr 27th, 08, 03:17 PM he has had that for sale a bunch of times, still fishin!
OK69 Apr 27th, 08, 07:52 PM I would not think its real. You have to understand this is the biggest scam around. There is always some great story about what happened. If you want to save some money, buy the right block casting, take about .010 off where the VIN is, engrave the block with your VIN, (on a CNC milling machine) and DZ# and save some money AND have a matching VIN. If you don't have some real history of the car with the right motor in it, then it's not real or very unlikely to be real. Many have gotten taken on EBAY.

What you are not realizing is that smith69z used to own it and knows the history of it.
Z282NV Apr 28th, 08, 10:55 AM So if this is not a real DZ, what should it be selling for? Keep in mind he has the original POP..:noway::thumbsup:
phel69 Apr 28th, 08, 05:19 PM What don't you guys get about the guy just wanting to verify the build date after a decking. He didn't try to make it look legitimate.
Sometimes you guys are looking for a scam where there isn't one.
This is the exact reason that I sold my one owner 69 SS396 w/ complete #'s matching plus an installed 454, 550 hp and bought an 02 Vette vert.
I am tired of all the drama that these cars bring. You are better off buying a no numbers car and building what you want.
Today there are too any experts with too little knowledge disputing everything that comes up for sale.
A site member sold this engine to a guy that decided to unload it. It hads all been discussed. Get over it for once.

Bob,
$6500 for a advertised real DZ engine that is really a $200 junk block is a scam.
Thanks,
Captain Obvious
smith69z Apr 28th, 08, 06:48 PM I did own the motor and spoke to the guy whose name is on the bill of sale. He bought the entire car in PA for the drive train. Sold it to Heartbeat city Jim who sold the motor to the buyer I bought it from. I had bought the motor 5 years ago. Is this really that unbelievable? The Bill of Sale Vin and POP match the vin on the motor. Had 1178 crank, pink rods, etc...
clill Apr 28th, 08, 06:51 PM What makes it a 200.00 junk block ? Looks like a nice complete engine other than the restamp and he disclosed in the auction that it had been decked.

Yea I agree. Sometimes the politics and general B.S. are overwhelming and killing the integrity of the hobby.
Gary L Apr 29th, 08, 08:16 AM I really don't see any difference between this auction with a fake stamp and any other auction with a fake stamp. Sellers always over-hype to make things seem legit. Smith69z made it clear to everyone here. All the seller had to do was state why it was re-stamped.
What if this was a true "X" code car that someone changed the tag for a different color. Would the seller get a free pass just because of paperwork? Yes I agree that we are sometimes quick to jump on things like this.

I would never let what others think dictate what I own or desire to own. I really do understand your flustration. I owned a 69 Chevelle SS396 all completly numbers car, Engine, trans, rear end with build sheet and protecto. Even had the orginal water pump, carb, dist and complete smog set up. Its amazing the amount of people that would want to pick it apart and call stuff restamped etc when I know for sure they were not. I always chalk those kind of attitudes up to jelouse people wanting to dregrade your car because 90% of them ask what the price is to buy it. Responce to them always was why would "YOU" want to buy a faked Chevelle Mr Chevelle expert? Then they try to leave you phone number and I would just tell them to keep it.
Joe

It's not about "getting it" Bob. This board is about discussion and sharing knowledge. The knowledge was shared. If smith69z had not shared what he knows it was just another auction in question.
What I think is odd that c130nav first post out states "worst engine restamp...." Better to ask a question like "what do you guys think?"
BIGBLOCK70Z Apr 29th, 08, 04:14 PM I DID NOT READ ALL OF THIS THREAD ONLY THE FIRST COUPLE OF POST. if i had a dz block and it needed to be surfaced. i might just restamp it back also. but i would have plenty of documentation to back that up.
DZ Fool Apr 29th, 08, 05:26 PM I am completely confused. I just rebuilt my 302 with a set of date correct 186 heads, original 30 30 cam , correct and dated 4053 carb . The engine builder Ray Romito honed the block to .035 over and ordered a set of custom Venolia .035 pistons. I was worried about this block being out of my site the whole time.
My Z has been appraised by Rudy Cozzi at $ 47K . Its not the nicest Z out there , but being a pre X code car,if i decked the DZ block and restamped it as in the pics in this Ebay ad. My car would be worth $ 25 K to $30 K. And the block would be a boat anchor.
I am not a purist about these cars. I have driven my Z to high school, sprayed it with nitrous, drag raced it with a 377 to 11:92 at 114, smashed it into a lightpole,I have been rear ended on Lake Shore Drive, and did donuts for a blond with big fake Hooters this summer.
If you are all about original or just enjoy cruising your car thats completely up to you.
The issue with this topic is a restamped block asking original-correct money for it.

camaro ed Apr 29th, 08, 05:37 PM My question is did you like the hooters any less because they were fake? I've seen several sets of fake hooters I liked a lot better than some of the real ones. As to the cars, what really baffles me is that folks talk out both sides of their mouth. You see a nice car, pick it to death, and if it has a restamp, or non original motor, or other parts that are not dated correctly, or bearing the right part number, it is blasphemy and not worth squat, but someone will find a rusty junk Z bearing only a TT, and everyone goes nuts and encourages the finder to spend a zillion dollars to restore it. Then when it is back together, it is picked apart again.
DZ Fool Apr 29th, 08, 05:46 PM Ed,
Make sure your OK resting your face on top of boulders and I caution any motorboating with the fake ones.
Fake will always be fake - Its about quality and workmanship and honesty.
I have seen some copo clones much nicer than my # matching Z that are awesome.
The hobby is way out of control, the only way I can afford my Z is because i have owned it since 1988.

I agree - made this post worth reading.
OK69 Apr 29th, 08, 10:06 PM Buy a car, put whatever motor in that you like, and drive it. I am not sure you are not better off buying a clone. Everything is known up front. You save a bunch of money and it still looks like a Z or SS. I wonder if anybody ever bought a clone that was really "real". Wouldn't that be pleasant to hear about! Got any pics of that Hooters girl?

I taked to 3 owners back about my car. He owned the car from the early 80's to early 90's. He was not really into cars as much as he just liked this Camaro. He told me he never really believed it was a real Z/28. He didn't know about "X" codes. So it has happened.
