Hey guys, kind of unsure where to ask this, but i was wondering if anyone has taken their trim (window trim, door handles, bumpers) and made it look brushed... if that makes any sense. I seen Chip Foose do it on Overhaulin the other day and i thought it looked pretty cool. Anyone know of how to do this, or who could do this? Thanks!

I did it to all the stainless trim on the 68 I'm doing. there will also be some added to the interior. I used 80 grit sandpaper and carefully sanded following
the length of the pieces. Used long smooth strokes for an even finish, much
like sanding a wood grain.

Did you wet sand with the 80 grit or no? Got any pics you could send me of your progress?

The 68 is 250 mi. away at the trim shop, but I have the w/shld and back glass
trim here. I'll try and take a pic. and post later.

80 grit seems a bit harsh, but it might look good since I haven't seen or tried it.

I would try 400 or 600 grit, evenly and straight as mentioned.

I'm having trouble adding pics to my post, but if you go to my photobucket
I got a couple to post there. I sanded the trim dry with 80 grit and then finishrd with scuffpad to soften finish and maintain.

Thanks Dave, I'm used to the paperclip icon to click on and transfer pics. I haven't done it here in a while and forgot how. I'll figure it out next time. thanx again for posting pics.

That looks awesome! Thanks guys! Thank god i have a whole pile of extras to practice on... i wouldnt need to clear that at all would i? And do you think i can do the chrome plated stuff like the bumpers without a problem? Thanks again

I chose to paint my bumpers to minimize thier look, but you can give the chrome the same treatment. Getting the sand scratches even and straight
is the key to a pleasing look, and will be more challenging on the bumpers due to more overall surface area. Set the bumpers up and clamp them in place so
you're not chasing them around. If you put sand scratches at an angle to the part it will look like crap and hard to straighten back out, so concentrate on every stroke. One warning on chrome. If you sand too hard in one place and
go through, it will be yellow and there's no fix. The other trim is stainless all
the way through. No clearcoat is neaded on any of these parts. Good Luck

I have brushed several trim pieces and engine parts on my cycle before. I would simply use a green scotchbrite pad and work it back and forth. I could not imagine using anything with grit to it /cringe.
