I just got done painting my firewall with POR 15 and let it set up good and then tried to put seam sealer on. Well it didn't work like I was told it would. The POR is just to slick to stick to.
I will put the sealer on first and then paint and see what happens. I have alot to do so want it to come out nice. The firewall was going to be sweet till this happened. Hope it doesn't look to bad.
Any idea how it would work when the POR is dry and sealer is put on? I won't do any more till I here from someone.
Thanks,Matt

Either scuff the POR15 to provide some bite or use their product ( don't remember the name ) that they offer for painting over POR15. I wouldn't put POR15 over the seam sealer as it needs to bond with metal. Having said that, the POR15 seals very well. Is the seam sealer for appearance?

I agree, try scuffing the POR-15. They have some stuff called "tie-coat primer" but I think this is also supposed to be applied while the POR is tacky.

I cleaned off the firewall and some of the sealer that was on it came off so I wanted to redo it so it looked nice. I did get it to stick after it was dry. But the por ran and looks bad. I will try to sand it down tomorrow and see if it looks better.
I put new floors in and want to seal the lip were the metal is. To fill in the gap, other wise I would just use the por.

Thanks, Matt

Matt, what kind of seam sealer are you using? I just finished my driver side floor and want to seal the seam. I would like to use the brush on type, thats the look I want. I know it won't be seen but want to experiment here before I use it some where else. It must also be used at the base of the windshield where I installed a new dash. This area I already have two coats of por-15 semi gloss black so I'm wondering if I'm faced with the same dilema, thanks for any help, Chris

Chris, I used 3m fast and firm. It looks like a good product but I didn't let the por dry long enough. I went back later and put some more on and it worked so much better.
I am sandind it off and starting over, the paint ran and wasn't what I wanted.
I am not trying to make it look original, just nice and clean. I want the seam smooth and the wall shinny.
If you use a brush use a stiff short haired brush. I remember at the body shop 17 years ago this guy used thinner on his finger to smoothen it out, so if the brush doesn't glide right try that.
I am using 80 grit papper and the por is coming right off. So maybe I will get more sealer on tonight.
Let me know how it goes for you. Matt

We use POR-15 nearly exclusively. You can never have enough foam brushes. To paint any overcoat, you'll need the "blue" top-coat primer. I use the "yellow" can of flat black for the firewall. It's around 30% and correct for the firewall. A little goes a very long way. Follow up your 80 grit with something more fine to give the POR a sheem. Why are you top coating the firewall anyway? If you havent tried their puddy, it's a fantastic (small area) filler. You can drill and tap it with no problems.

I wanted it gloss black and also to be tough enough to last. I did try a foam brush. To many air bubbles. I finally got it to look good last night.
I was going to paint the wheel wells the same way but I think I will have them sprayed at the body shop.
I will try to finish painting the under side of the car with por this weekend.
Has anyone tryed to get a under coating to stick to por? There are some spots I want to coat. Also what should I do for under the wheel wells?
Thanks,Matt.
