: Body Emblems

My car was originally an SS car. Since all the good original stuff was gone I built a driver and put Z-28 stripes on it.

Now I'm trying to figure out which emblem to put on the tail light panel. I'm not in favor of the "SS" emblem because of the stripes, nor the "Z-28" because it's not, so I'm leaning toward the base coupe/COPO Chevy Bowtie. Any thoughts on this??

The other question is - do all the various emblems fit into the same 2 holes - or more specifically - the "SS" holes?

The standard Bow-Tie will fit. But why change if it's a true SS.

I agree with Pat. Just cuz it doesn't have the right stripes doesn't mean it's not an SS. My '69 SS will probably get the Z stripes cuz I like them and will have all new SS emblems. Azure turquois with black interior and stripes. It ought to look sharp and be unique. It may not please the purists, but it will please me. Do it the way you'll be happiest with.

I'm in favor of the standard bow tie.

I would put the SS emblems back on if its a real SS even with the z28 stripe I'am redoing my 68 SS conv and I had z28 stripes on it for 10 years but I decided to put it back original with the SS stripe but I still like the Z28 stripe better!

I don't know what to say. This is the first time I heard of someone going that way. Everyone takes off the bowtie to put the SS and Z emblems on. It seems everyone has a SS or Z nowadays. I would put the bowtie on just to listen to people talk about it. There will be alot of people telling you your car isn't a real SS because it has the bowtie emblem (if you don't tell them you did it). Eh, why not, put the bowtie on and start the controvesy. Besides I can't remember the last time I seen one. You just made my day for even thinking about doing it. Your my hero for the day.

How about a big fat "No Fear" sticker, or even better, a sticker with Calvin peeing on some other car emblem.

If the Bowtie fits, use it. Every town clown has SS and Z28 emblems. Including me, but at least they're real.

Not only did Chevy never put Z28/Pace Car stripes on normal SS's they didn't install 406/5-speeds/9-inch drivetrains either. Those are also interesting ralley wheels that you got there as well. See where I'm going? Gorgeous car do what you want.

Oh my '69 SS has the Z/28 stripes as well... I don't care what the "purists" think and by the way in four years no one has ever said anything about them.

I had the same delimma. My car is in the paint shop now. I am going to paint it using the Baldwin Motion paint scheme. It will be painted Hugger orange with a white 18 inch or so wide centered stripe down the hood, top, and truck and the last 18 inches of the body and tailpan painted white. It will also have white SS hockey sticks on the side.

I wanted the external look of a B-M car, but with my car having a small block, it would be an obvious fake. Since all B-M cars were SS cars, I thought about putting the SS emblems on it, but just couldn't do it.

I'm going to stick to bowties front and rear. My car has all of the SS equipment (12-bolt, disc brakes, etc...), but is not an SS.

I appreciate all the comments!

As I mentioned in another post, I had the pleasure of seeing a newly restored ZL-1 last weekend. Being a COPO car it had the Bowties and I thought they looked pretty sweet! I think I'll go this way for now - and I can always change them if my mood changes!

Hey Scott!!!
Put Velcro on those emblems!!! Haha. I was thinking of getting brand new 2000 Camaro SS emblems and going that way. I think they are just stick ons but they would give a little flavor of the updates you have all ready done.
I have also given thought to having someone air brush the "emblems" on. Being that I am going in line with exterior originality I personally am sticking with the original SS's and of course adding the front and rear spoilers for my 67. The original drivetrain is long gone but I know what I have under my hood and what gets me to the road.
