Of the aftermarket mfrs of gears (looking for 12 bolt R&P) which are considered to be the quality brands (US Gear, Motive, Richmond, Superior , Yukon, etc...)?
I had previously thought that Richmond was well regarded but I've read alot of post about how they tend to whine more than other gears.

It's interesting that on the Precision Gear site their "statement" says that "street use will result in premature wear and failure".

Bought my stuff from US Gear/Strange. Very helpful and knowledgeable people.

Pulling from memory of Freddie's (BigGearHead) posts, he liked Yukon and Superior, and said Richmonds could be whiny.

All "pro series" or drag racing gears, no matter the brand, wear prematurely with extended street use because they have a softer rockwell number to absorb hard launches in mega-horsepower applications.

BTW - I was careful with the setup of my Richmond gears and they make not a sound.

Len, I've used Yukon to re-gear two Jeeps. Never had any problem with them. I think I bought them through Randy's. Jim

I could have sworn he liked U.S. Gear/Strange? Anyway....

When I was looking and asked the same question, some folks swore by Richmond and others equally claimed they were noisy. I ended up saving bucks and buying Summit's brand, which is made at any given point in time by one of the 4 name brands they carry. Most believe, as do I, that they're probably Richmond, but could be Motive. In any event, these were 3.73 for my 12 bolt and I couldn't be happier. There is now whine, no noise... I believe the sale price was like...$129 for the ring & pinion. It worked out great for me. Just sayin......

My ten bolt Richmonds take a beating and are quiet as a mouse.

I run both Richmond and US Gear. Happy with both. US Gear is a bit quieter but I'm told the Richmond is stronger.

Honeslty, they're all pretty good. Set-up is what's critical. If you've not done it, leave it to the pros.

Good luck!

Jim,
I've always used Yukon for my offroad stuff as well, I may stick with them.

Not 100% on this... but... when I bought my set-up from Feddie, I thought the gears were US Gears ??? can't recall :clonk:

I've contacted a couple of pro's and the consensus seems to be that US Gears are the weapon of choice, Doug Herbert performance seems to have about the best price on them ($160).

Just make sure you get gears manufactured for street use. There is a difference.
