Just out looking for parts so I pop over to amazon.com and search for aluminum radiators (they sell eerything, not just books!). The link below is what I found on the 1st item. Anyone heard of these before, or know anything?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0017W8G9M/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1210005228&sr=1-6&condition=all

Called the co. and Brent called me back, said the deal on amazon is a promo, trying to drum up some business, word of mouth,etc...

I was going to see if anyone had heard of them before I spent my $$$ but as he said; "You can't go wrong... if you don't like it you have my word on the return policy and not to mention amazons buyer protection. So your covered both ways."

I am fixing to order mine now, I will let ya all know how it goes and also post pix when I get it in.

this is from the description: "Aluminum disipates heat more efficiently than copper or brass"
isn't that completely wrong?
it makes no mention of how thick it is. two 1 inch rows is pretty much standard for aluminum, but they only mention 1/2 inch spacing for a higher density core. let us know how it turns out.

He said it was a 2 core rad. and more than handle cooling a 650hp big block. I usually do not fish in the waters on unknown part products, but at the price it cost and the fact amazon has a really sound/safe buyers protection, I figured what the hell.

I'm in the market for one myself and was just about to buy the Summit radiator.

I just emailed them with some questions. #1, assuming it is made overseas and want to find out. At the price, it can't be beat but I'm concerned about the quality and fit. I'm also concerned that it is worth the effort over my existing brass radiator and will help me achieve my goal of a ~10* drop in temp.

I'll let you know what their reply is to my questions related on fit, guarantee and where it was built.

And here is their response to my questions:

This is a two row. This radiator will cool a big block engine. Very efficient due to aluminum material and at least 1000 additional fins, create for a much more efficient cooling system. You have my guarantee and Amazons guarantee, that if you are not satisfied, return the radiator for a full refund. You should be able to mount the radiator, fans and all, without making any modifications, except for possibly a flex line or two. My prices are for promotional purposes and will not last much longer. BUT, regular pricing is usually no higher that $225.00 plus shipping. Still a great deal. We do not polish our radiators but typically, they look pretty shinny. They are made overseas. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Will you be placing an order? Thank you for your interest. Brent...

I am a bit unsure about not seeing one in-person, but think I'll give them a try.

Nope....that is why forced hot water finned baseboard heat has copper tubing and aluminum fins :)

Interesting. I found the same company selling radiators on e-bay under a different company name for about $200. The verbage is almost exactly the same as the Amazon page and their link.

Not saying they are not legit but has ruffled my feathers a bit. I've decided to spend the extra $100 and buy from Summit. They have yet to let me down in 10+ years.

this is what i was getting at:http://www.physics.ubc.ca/outreach/phys420/p420_04/kenneth/theory.htm

the structure of an aluminum radiator is better for overall heat transfer than the copper radiator, but copper as a substance is more conductive, which would make the quote from their webside incorrect, right?

They are the same people I think. I spoke with Brent before we ordered 2 (mine & friends), I am not to worried with it being bought thru amazon merchant services. Amazon has a solid customer protection policy. I also did not get that creepy/schmoozy feeling when I talked with the guy. Not that means alot but to me it is the 1st deciding factor in determining if someone will get my business or not.

Why waste the xtra $100.00, wait and see what those of us who ordered them say about the quality. I am almost willing to bet its the same radiator summit/jegs sell but without their name on it.
He did say the price was not normal and was promotional, trying to spark interest/conversation by getting more product out there to speak for itself.

Just spoke to a guy named Cid. He said there selling the radiator on Amazon at a low price to get there name in there. The price won't last. http://www.championcooling.com/ He Also said they are selling on ebay too. So yes there all the same company. I'm wondering how the dual Spal fans sit though. The core is at 23" and the fans are at 23.5". I'm calling him tommorrow for an exact measurement.

I like the look of a clean top also. Does anyone sell a nice cover for the top?

Will it fit a Spal dual fan setup? Can you tell us the EXACT core width?

Let us know how it fits. I found out the core is 22 7/8" and the fan is 23 1/2".

What the heck??? Cid just raised his price $20.......http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0017W8G9M/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1210005228&sr=1-6&condition=all

Any idea if it would fit a '79 with a 350?

Mine just arrived this morning. The following are my thoughts so far:

1. Made in China, oh well no big deal.
2. Well packed item, tons of popcorn and Styrofoam.
3. Decent looking welds, not a $500.00 looking radiator

It looks pretty much inline with the quality of a summit brand thats in my friends mustang. I am pleased with it as far as a purchase goes so far.

dimensions:

Outside edge to edge 28 (brackets not in calculation)
Finned area side to side 22.75

Top to bottom outside edge 18.25
Top to bottom finned area 15.75

As to mounting the dual spal fans... I will just cut out some brackets that will mount using the radiators mounting holes. The fans will extend past the finned area slightly but I do not see it as an issue.

Well, I ordered the Radiator for my ride and was inadvertently shipped the 20 3/4" core instead of the 23". I spoke with Brent and he was very nice about it. He's going come by and swap them out for me. It helps to be local.

I also ordered a dual SPAL 11" kit locally as well. When that unit showed up it had a crack in the shroud. Art at http://a1electric.com/spal.htm was very cool about it. He sent another fan kit to me with a return label for the broken one.

So now I have the fans, and I'm waiting for the correct radiator so I can fabricate a bracket and install it all.

Yesterday I pulled all the old crap out. Maybe it's time to with a serpentine belt system.

Since the posting of this thread there are now no less than 6 different people on e-bay selling these exact same radiators @ 169.00 plus shipping. I know they are the same because in the pictures they all show the little pink instruction sheet taped to the top of the radiator like mine came.

May 12th, 08, 01:09 PM
Yup, all the same! Who makes them? Besides China. Anyone know.

68IslTeal
May 12th, 08, 01:26 PM
No clue, but I did e-mail brent and suggested that if in contact with the chinese supplier... he suggest some design changes.

As the radiator sits its a great value priced radiator, I could not bought a stock style for the price I paid. However I would not put it on anything mroe than a hot rod/strip car, its not ugly its just not show car quality.

They welded every side of the end caps instead of doing like alot of co.'s and cutting one sheet of aluminum and folding over on itself to reduce welding. The way they built it just has more potential for failure (due to to all the welds). I know my post sounds negetive, but it is not. I am just trying to put up an honest opinion, I can live with the radiator I recieved just fine.

I installed mine yesterday. It fit with no modifications at all. It bolted rite into place. As far as the quality goes I really dont have anything to compare it to so I cant voice a opinion on that. Also it had a clip welded to the drivers side for the fan shroud to slide into but nothing on the passenger side. It also came with a short peace of wire in a seperate back looks like it should be some type of ground wire. Does anyone know for sure what its for? I drove the car with the A/C on around town and the temp never went above the 180 degree thermastat temp. It used to go well over 200 degrees with the A/C on. We shall see when the outside temps Are about 90 degress what it does then. I am running a stock 7 blade clutch fan.

hmmm I looked mine over and had no wire on it that I could find.

68Holdon
May 18th, 08, 03:16 PM
The wire was in a seperate plastic bag taped to the radiator. Single black wire with two closed end loops on it.

Okay guy's who has installed theres and where are the pics of it installed. I would like to see if anyone has done it with the stock fan setup and if you painted the radiator to blend in.
