Kurt, why is this not the right forum? This is a body section and a body question. I have seen this question asked many times.

Back to the question, Do a search on this. From what I have read, the change over is straight forward. You will need to get the fender brackets for the headlight buckets. NPD sell these for $29. Good luck, I plan to do this later this year!

This ? is a little hard to understand. Do you want to go from standard to RS or from RS to standard?

what is involved in changing a standerd grill over the the hide aways?

grill over FROM the hide aways? or
grill over TO the hide aways?

Plenty to do to switch to Hide-away lights (RS)

Tabs for the headlight buckets need to be mounted since the RS mounts are further inside the fender. Headlight buckets and all the door hardware must be purchased since they too are different. The doors swing to the sides of the lights. The RS Grille is also different than a standard grille and with the move to an RS features that rectanglar turn signals that are n the standard grille are moved to a new location below the front bumper/thus the lower front valance is different than standard having the turn signal light mounting areas cut into them. You could get away from having all the vacum lines run (no electric motors in 68/79 only in 67's) and run a manual choke type cable that has a central connection (pivit) point that will allow you to open both doors from the inside. (im doing something like this for my 68) To make the car look like a true RS the rear lights also need to be chanced dout with the tail lights on both sides having 4 red lenses and again the back up lights below the rear bumper meaning again a different lower rear valance or someone that can cut in the mounting areas for you. I can send you some diagrams of the front and rear areas if you like.

Why not just buy the RS conversion kit from Classic industries ?
