This is not mine. Have no clue who the seller is but someone here may be interested. Not sure this has not already been posted.

The block casting is Aug 14 '68, but the pad stamp starts with T02??JH. Seems odd that the block sat around for 6 months before being assembled.

Odd, maybe, but not impossible. I saw an unrebuilt JH motor one time that was cast in October, and built in May. Wish I had checked out the VIN, but it didn't occur to me at the time. However, I'm sure it was not tampered with as it was a bare block, not destined for any particular car.

If it was a bare block, it wouldn't have an assembly code on it.:beers:

Semantics!!! The block was cast in October 68, and assembled into an engine in May 69, at which time it was stamped with the assembly date and application code. Then it was placed in a manual shift Camaro or Nova (don't know which as I did not look for the partial VIN) Then, at some point the engine was removed from the car and disasembled down to the bare block. That's what I call a bare block....your definition may be different.

My point was, why would anyone restamp a date code and engine code, in order to match a car they had, and not rebuild the motor and stick it in the car?

I'll take one of those beers, please.

Mark thought you meant it was sold over the counter as a bare block.

Thats what a bare block means to me. A loose block is one that was in a car but now is floating around as parts per my definition. Everyone has a different name for stuff I guess.

The cast date would be date code correct for my L78...any thoughts on what this might be worth?

Is an "H" for manual shift? Mine is a JL. (sorry, too lazy to check my book, besides, I have a puppy on my lap sleeping.)

I can't see the J in the pictures but maybe my eyesight is failing. I bet if he put a little nitile on the pad all the numbers could be seen
