: Metal quality question - Bel Air Bob's?
shoe May 6th, 08, 08:39 PM This may seem terribly wrong, but I have nothing but respect for Bob, just haven't purchased anything from him before.
My question is for those that have purchased fenders or complete kits from Bel Air Bob's in the past. I am ready to buy a complete front end for my 67 (inner/outer RS fenders, SS hood, valance, header, radiator support), and want to know how well folks have liked their price/quality/fit compared to other companies. To avoid any misunderstandings I am only looking for private responses on this, and again want to say that I appreciate the advice Bob has given me in the past.
This is just a business question, as I want to compare prices and quality/fit to the front end stuff I can obtain locally in So Cal from Classic Industries (or others). Of course, other recommendations are welcome, including original 67 parts you may have avail for sale.

ldrisner May 6th, 08, 08:55 PM Repo parts are a gamble no matter who you buy from. My advice is to buy local when ever possible to make exchanges easy.
DougP May 7th, 08, 04:47 AM Its pretty well known that repro parts dont fit as well as original GM. However, if you know this going in and you're patient, you can make it work out just fine. I bought all my sheetmetal (full rear quarters trunk floor, tail pan, driver floor pan, both front fenders, both door shells, front valance and hood) from Belair Bob. Had only minor problems with fitment but that was expected. Best part was great customer service from Bob.

vrdanna May 7th, 08, 06:01 AM i got all my sheetmetal (1/4's, rear panel, trunk filler panel, outer wheelwells, trunk drop offs, trunk floor pan patches, and roof) from Bob and as Doug said it takes some patience to get any repo panels to fit, but if i can do it anybody can. service is great also.
Unreal May 7th, 08, 06:08 AM To me, that's like asking is a new bought from the Chevy dealer on Main St. better than one bought from the Chevy dealer on Broad St. The source is the same. Now price and service may be different.

69rustbucket May 7th, 08, 07:35 AM I bought all of my sheet metal and still buying more from Bob. Aside from having great prices, his customer service is great.

Not the same in the slighest degree, other than they are both selling something. Considering the fact the shet metal has had retooling dates, etc... one would want to make sure they are getting newer stampings, some people have prefences in brand, ie goodmark, classic, golden legion, etc...
RockinRob May 7th, 08, 08:49 AM I bought my stuff from Bob, and agree with most above, that all the repop stuff needs a little tweaking, but all that aside, Bob was great to deal with, materials were quality and service was great.

That is key!
I am lucky to be near Restoration World and it is pleasure to deal with Gary Harmon and his sons.
You don't like the fit? They'll give you another!
Service means a ton! I know not all have the luck of Geography like me.
