i have an 89 RS that i plan on restoring and beefing up. One of my questions is, would it be structually ok to have T-Tops cut into it. Also, there is rust forming around the windshield. when i do the body work, if i have T-Tops put in, would it work better i replaced the (newly made) panel surrounding the windshield or should i just leave the rusted one and patch it with fiberglass?

i think T-top and convertible cars have extra bracing in the frame to keep things stiff and un-bent...

That scares me too and I used to be fearless.
First, fiberglass repairs over or on steel is a no no. Secondly, you will interupt the structural integrity of the car, not only the roof, if you attempt this.

The car will twist with T-tops on hard launches. My brother has a 84 Mustang 5.0 with T-tops. It has cracks and big rust holes near the top of the windshield pillars. This is due to the T-tops. I would leave it as it is. Just my .02

I think if you do this that you should just weld a t-top roof on rather than cut the t-top in the current roof. Does anyone know if these cars really do have extra bracing underneath for t-top cars? I am cutting a rust free one up and will save the bracing if I know its special to a t-top car

I have to agree with Toby and Racer#00. I've heard stories of 3rd generation Camaros with 'built' engines, shattering the T Tops on launch, from the sheer torque.(wild!)

only the convertables got extra bracing for t tops. All you really need is subrfame connectors to help with twist when having t tops. Here is what you will hate though. your car didnt have em to begin with. if you put em in, they will leak forever and ever, and you will hate that. Mine were there originaly and they leak now. just started. its a 92.

i have a 305 with 260 ft lbs, and they squeek like i have mice on crack in the car. my 6 year old nephew actually asked me one time if i had mice in the car. NO KIDDING.

so, if you are gona put em in, get an entire roof from another car, put in sfc's and it wouldnt hurt to get a roll bar too if you are gona have over 300 ft lbs torque.

Don't do it. If you want a T-top or Convertible car sell the one you have and go out and buy one. It is safer and in the long run FAR cheaper.
