: Quarter Window Trim Piece + Hole ?
redlines4us Apr 25th, 03, 02:52 PM Can anyone tell me the proper name for this trim piece? I've seen tons of 69's with this piece in just stainless and some have the stainless piece with a rubber piece attached. At the rear of the quarter window on the body itself is a small hole and the pieces I've seen with the rubber have a larger piece of rubber there to cover that hole. Is that hole suppose to be there and if so, why? I've seen some very nicely restored '69 Camaros with that hole exposed. Where can I get the piece with the rubber attached? Any help of info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Bill

The above picture is not of my Camaro. I used it just for a reference.

69lemans Apr 25th, 03, 04:03 PM Outer window glass run weatherstrip with chrome bead, page 322 and 323 in the new Classic Ind. catalog.
Unreal Apr 25th, 03, 04:21 PM Not the "official" name, but most refer to these as outer quarter fuzzies.
Geezer Apr 26th, 03, 04:26 AM I’ve always thought they were just called outer window fuzzies myself. If the rubber and fuzzy stuff is gone, it’s because they are old and worn out, rotted off.
redlines4us Apr 26th, 03, 06:21 AM How about the hole? Take a look at your '69 hardtops and let me know how yours looks in that corner. As I said, I looked at a dozen '69 Camaros at Carlisle and every single '69 Hardtop had that hole on both sides. Some were a little smaller and some were larger. Some looked as if the owners tried to put filler or caulking in there. Some were left open (water trap) and some had a piece of rubber hooked to the chrome piece that covered or partially covered the hole. I think it's very unsightly and was just curious.
Thanks! Bill
Oramac68 Apr 26th, 03, 05:24 PM Redline, Most of the vendors carry the correct style outer fuzzie with the curved out rubber end to cover hole. Make sure you ask them if it has the larger rounded out end when ordering.
69lemans Apr 27th, 03, 03:43 PM Both of ours cars have this hole, picture (http://hobbystage.net/camaro/media.cgi?site=69lemansii&folder=*&group=5&page=*&id=1051493599-001882). One would think that the factory should have put some seam sealer in. Our window fuzzies have the triangle piece on the tail end that almost covers it.
stingr69 Apr 28th, 03, 07:39 AM The rear of the outer window fuzzy should have a little extra rubber material that would cover a small piece of extra metal that is welded to the rear of the quarter window opening on a factory quater panel. I can provide a picture of this assembly if needed. This extra metal is not found on repro quarters as far as I know. It supports the extra rubber tail on the fuzzy. I have replaced my rear quarters but forgot to remove the original welded on piece and weld it on to the new fenders so I may need to use panel adhesive at this time. I know I have at least 1 of those do-dads but maybe not both. I saved most of my scrap cutoffs because I am a real packrat. ;)

ruquikr Apr 29th, 03, 01:30 AM I've seen this problem on many a nice restoration too. Its real disappointing because you go along appreciating everything nice they did to the car and then... Its often overlooked.
My factory GM (dead) fuzzies I took off had the "ear" (thats what I call it) on them to cover this hole. Early repro fuzzies did not account for this detail. I had to make my own at one time and glue it in place.
PDQUICK Apr 29th, 03, 01:51 AM My '68 has the hole on both sides. It's a badly finished piece of body work from the General! It looks like there is some seam sealer stuffed into the space.
redlines4us Apr 29th, 03, 03:46 AM I'm glad I'm not the only one with those unsightly holes. I'm in the process of fabricating a piece to cover the hole. I tried a piece of thin black rubber, but it doesn't look right. I'm still considering making it from rubber or possibly some other thin material and possibly painting it to match the body color. I also have a couple of very small pieces of stainless I might try there. A friend of mine pointed those holes out to me, now every time I look a the car, it seems to just jump out at me. Every single '69 I've seen has them too, so I guess I'm not alone. I'll post some before and after pictures in a couple of weeks. If anyone else has any suggestions for a coverup, please let me know. Thanks! Bill
Unreal Apr 29th, 03, 09:12 AM I have one original quarter, and one NOS quarter. The original has seam sealer in the corner, and the replaced one has nothing. Car is painted, I'm not going to do anything that would necessitate any repainting.
Gotta say, I hate you for pointing it out. It's like a wart on a beauty queen's face. Once you spot the wart, you don't notice all the beauty around it.
HwyStarJoe Apr 29th, 03, 10:17 AM LOL!
Bill, I might have forgotten to mention in my email that both my quarters have been replaced also. Maybe that's why I can see those 'holes' in the corners. Maybe I'll just weld 'em up seeing as how it's down to bare metal right now.
