I have 69 SS RS 396 convertible paint code 51 dusk blue. Does anybody know if the rear tailpanel is suppose to be black? If so why and what color black semi gloss or flat? Any fact books that show this because I was told dusk blue was the only SS that did not have black tail panels. Thanks. Phil

It did not get the black paint. My brother inlaw has one. It has never been painted. It is a RS/SS 396-375hp car.

I have a survivor 1970 SS 396(L-78) Camaro and I can attest that the tail panel was painted a quite "glossy" Black.....maybe not a FULL gloss but definitely MORE than a semi.....my honest observation....my truthful opinion....Chuck Sharin/Seattle

I was under the impression that all colors except for black and the pace car BB had the rear panel blackened out. I have also heard that it is a 40% gloss.
