1969ProStreetCamaro May 13th, 08, 07:54 PM Congrats to you fatblock:hurray::hurray:
fatblock May 13th, 08, 08:42 PM Thanks David.I am close to start up.I think the spending is done.Got my Milidon oiling today and Crane is spinning up some .135 wall custom lenghth 3/8ths pushrods.BDS is supplying the side mount carb plumbing and weiand just shipped me the hyme joint dual quad linkage.lol,I am doing my best to stimulate the economy, the Prez would be proud of me.
prostreet69camaro May 13th, 08, 09:51 PM George,

George,I thought that very same thing, then I had a roller cam and complete rebuild performed on my BBC which necessitated a torque converter change.......cha-ching,cha-ching went the cash register at the The Performance Clinic, but now I've got a very "healthy" Rat under the hood of my Camaro:yes::D!!
fatblock May 14th, 08, 06:09 PM Duly noted Mike.I will take my time with the linkage.I triple check everything for an immediate start up.I am off to Vancouver BC in the am for a wedding,so the project is stalled out until monday on my return.Hopefully the pushrods will be in hand.I have everything else to fully assemble and install.

You know David..I have put some thought into the converter.I had a new Hughes 10" 3500 behind the n/a 427.I traded even with my boss for his 10" Yank @ 2800.I am figuring the extra cubes and the 8-71 will like the tighter converter in this little street deal. The Crower flat tappet mechanical is mild at .529/.544 lift.246/254 @ .050",114 lsa.I will fire up 11% under for safety and pulley up as reqd/needed.:D

prostreet69camaro May 15th, 08, 08:26 AM George,
I called Coan and talked to them about a convertor. I am running a 2500 stall. I also replaced the R&P to a 389. I had a 513 gear in it with my small block. Now I can cruise on the interstate a 3000 rpm @ 75/80 mph. Before I was going about 60/65 mph. I also have a 33 inch tall rear tire.
The convetor was $877.50
I had a 3500 ATI convertor ( $350.00 ) behind the 406 but after talking to Coan and a few friends with blower motors I went with the Coan convertor. I believe the ATI would not of lasted behind the torque of a blower motor.

Have you installed your motor and is it running.

Mike,
It has been ran on the dyno:D:D. The dyno pulls were recorded by the "Clinic" and will be given to me on a CD.I have not seen the engine yet,it's in OH. I will be going to OH. Memorial Day weekend for the install. The "Clinic" faxed a copy of the dyno results to Coan and they custom built a converter to maximize the engine's horsepower and torque.I've never had a BBC with as much HP as this one has now but I know it's gonna be a different "animal":D

George,
Any update on the blower install?
fatblock May 29th, 08, 08:45 PM Hey David.I did send some pics over to you to post for me like you offered.I probably screwed up,not very puter savvy.Alls well..got the geometry correct with the Trend 3/8ths .135 wall pushrods.Had a minor hiccup that slowed me down. The Patriot 2211 heads require longer than stock bolts over the raised by .400" exhaust port.Got that sqaured away and the long block is installed.Primed the engine with a 1/2 inch drill and got 70 psi and oil dripping off all rockers after 360* rotation.Installed the blower manifold, dropped the 8-71 atop and installed the dual qaud carb adapter. That is where I stalled out to date.My 850 dp,s have provision for a detent cable that places the lower portion of the linkage to low to clear the carb adapter. It is easy to correct with a cut off wheel..and am trying to visualize how to get the correct geometry for my 700r4 detent cable below the blower utilizing the weiand side mount carb linkage.:D

fatblock May 29th, 08, 11:32 PM Thanks David.I hope you enjoyed the pics of the build,as others.great that you could post them,a picture paints a thousand words. As far out from completion as it appears..take solice in the fact old Fatblock rocks and rolls real fast when left alone.lol.I should be good to fire in 2 weeks and have the front clip back on for final pics shortly.IMHO-should make for a nice little street deal, should I have consulted the 4 banger fart can ricer crowd prior to the build?:D
1969ProStreetCamaro May 30th, 08, 05:29 AM George,
If you would like to send me more progress pics I will post them for you . When you send them to me, you can either send me a PM (private message) about it or just post that you have sent me more pictures on this thread and I'll take care of it for you.
fatblock May 31st, 08, 09:44 PM Your my go to guy David.Thank you again.Ran thru the lash a second time, happy with the results.Nice pattern at mid lift.Bolted down the rocker covers and hung the headers.FWIW guys,no fitment issues with the raised by .400" exhaust ports.Just took 8 longer head bolts.Make sure you ask for these if going with an aftermarket head.Stabbed the dizzy @ 16* initial for fire up.Mounted the moroso water pump with bypass stat and swivel housing.
1969ProStreetCamaro Jun 1st, 08, 11:05 AM Goerge,
It was my pleasure to post those pics for you!! That Camaro is gonna be one mean ride:yes:.
1969ProStreetCamaro Jun 17th, 08, 06:32 PM George,
What kind of progress have you made on the blower installation on your Camaro?
fatblock Jun 17th, 08, 08:23 PM Good to hear from you Dave.
I shoved the 68 out the of the garage last Sunday afternoon. After triple checking everything..I decided to fire her up.I ran the bg 400 fuel pump and set my float levels. The carbs are synched and move in perfect tandem with that Weiand side mount linkage.Mind you that was fun..took several attempts to get it right.I had a fuel leak on one of the BDS 6 AN fittings.I removed the jam nut and lightly lubed the threads with a smidgen of oil. That fixed it.Filled the rad and sat back for a sec. What did I forget???Could not thing of anything..so I tapped the dual 850 dp,s twice.Let her sit for 10 seconds and then went to crank. She rolled over twice and fired right up.I could not catch her in time, and she snuffed herself out.I sat for a sec and pondered.Sounded like she wanted more initial.I tapped the dizzy forward about 4* and upped the curb idle screws(2) 1/2 turn.Tickled the primary pumps two times..counted to 5 and then hit her.She fired off in one revolution and went to a steady 1200 rpm cold.
Ran around the car like a chicken with its head cut off,no disasters,no weird noises and straight to the throttle.Ran her at 2k for 15 mins and then let her settle down to 1k.I would like to add, that there is nothing in my garage still in place that is not bolted down. This thunder had everything falling off the bench and walls.I have not yet put a light on her or adjust a carb. The baseline tuneup is spot on and she will idle at 900 rpm with no blower surge/hunt.I did do a heat soak restart thru the window and got an immediate start with 1/2 a crank revolution.I still have some issues. The weind intake has provisions for coolant temp sensor in the rear only. Not good.I need to read coolant exiting the heads.I have a mezier 1 inch t-stat adapter coming tomorrow. This will get my coolant temp sensor located in the front of the blower manifold behind the t-stat,where it should be.Aside from that..All went well. The front clip is in the paint booth as we speak. The glass hood is custom fitted with hinges at the rear and a repop hood prop rod from NPD.My buddy Razor(Ray Bishop Design) is making up a cartoon figure for the 4 inch cowl.Check out his work..he designs and paints goalie masks for NHL players.I hope this does not offend the smallblock guys..but will have a nasty Rat pouring the coals to a cute little mouse doggy style.Nothing showing as not offend..but the rat/mouse will make sence for those in the know.lol.Should have the front clip on this week and then some test and tune around the block.
1969ProStreetCamaro Jun 17th, 08, 08:40 PM George,
I'm impressed!! You've got one nice Camaro(now blown) If you still haven't had the time to figure out how to post pictures you can PM me and tell me when you are going to email me more pics and I will be more than happy to post them here for everyone to see that blown BBC :beers:
fatblock Jun 17th, 08, 09:38 PM Again..thank you David.I should know by now how to post my own pics, but in all honesty...my mind has been on the build and the start up.I did not want to take advantage of your offer and burden you.I will pm you in advance of updated pics.I would like your opinion on the paint scheme also.I like the silver 68..but this year it gets the black stripes up the hood and cowl and aft to the trunk and spoiler.

George,
When you're ready with your updated pics just let me know and I will post them. Silver with Black stripes.....I think that would look great.Think about this.....over the black stripes only...a couple of coats of pearl to really make people to a double take when they see that the stripes change color:yes:.I get a lot of  when people notice the pearl ghost flames that change color when the sun shines on them. A couple coats of pearl on the stripes only won't cost very much more than just doing the stripes. What do you think? Am I way off base on the pearl black stripes? Another idea is ghost flames in the black stripes on the hood only.
prostreet69camaro Jun 18th, 08, 10:35 AM I was talking to a guy about the ghost flames I have on my car. I told him when I repaint it I would like to see them better. He told me to put glass over them. He said it was a powder just like the pearl. The pearl is what I added to my paint for the flames to ghost them in. I dont know what glass is????

Mike,
I have never heard of this "glass" that you mentioned in your post above:noway:.When I had my flames done the painter laid down the red pearl a little heavier than normal, that way they are more noticeable than most"ghost flames". I would ask that guy again what he is referring to when he says "glass". I would not want that on my car especially not knowing what it is :noway:
prostreet69camaro Jun 18th, 08, 03:14 PM The way I did mine was add 5 teaspoons of purple pearl to a quart of my original paint. Then painted my flames. He said it was a powder just like the purple pearl. It will be a while before I paint my car. I need to finish the 69 protouring camaro I am doing. Its hell waiting on painters.

Mike,
My flames are a seperate red pearl paint from PPG that does not contain any of the base coat color. Is this powder also mixed with the base coat color?
prostreet69camaro Jun 18th, 08, 06:46 PM I really dont know the answer to that. I talked to a painter at the Lake Summerville show that painted the Orange Sunkist 67 Nova. He is the one that told me about it. I will have to ask my paint supplier about it.

fatblock Jun 29th, 08, 09:21 PM Thanks David. The paper air filters inside the hilborn type scoop are being replaced with taller K&N,s as suggested by all.I left out that foam filter that should be sandwiched between the scoop grill. The hood prop rod is from npd for a yenko glass hood.We modified hood hinges off a 2002 cavalier and glassed in 5/16th nuts for attchment. The hood lifts off the cowl area immediately..so no scrubbing.I have yet to roadtest the little street deal due to rain..but it torques the car up in park with a throttle blip to 3k.
prostreet69camaro Jun 30th, 08, 09:57 PM George,
That motor is going to make so much torque them back tires are going to just spin. Good luck. I put the SR radial 33X22X15 and all I do is spin them. I like my ET streets better and am thinking about putting them back on. Good luck and the car looks killer.
