Yeah, I know...It's not a Camaro question, but I know that some of you guys are also into Chevelles'.
Can someone plese tell me what the engine alternatives would be in a Chevelle -71 SS? 396? 454? smaller? Bigger? What would be the correct engine for an SS?:beers:

Anything from a 350 to a 402(396) or the 454 on the highest output cars.
SS was sort of a trim package and not necessarily a performance optioned car.
The 454's have SS-454 badging.
I think all the SS VIN's should start with 13637 for a coupe (13667 for a vert), but you might want to run that one by a Clevelle expert ... (I'm not accounting for the ElCamino SS's either ...)

Hope this helps some ...

Stop over to the Chevelle sister site. Great community.

For 71 SS; 350 (2 or 4 barrel), 402, 454.

Check out how to tell the difference; http://www.chevelles.com/shop/ss_ident.html
