Well, they did a pretty good job of capturing it from a design standpoint. Nice looking ride, will make the Mopar guys as happy as the new Mustang made the Ford guys happy.

But the new Camaro?........................................... .....

The challenger is HUGE!!!! It's nothing more then a charger coupe. A 20 footer at best! As for the new Camaro I worked for GM and had inside knowledge that the car was coming... The problem with the build for starters is where! Second was the tooling... The Car is coming and I am in the top 5 in Deposit at a certain dealership that get a very stong allocation of vehicles. I would love to get my hands on a NEW ZR1 if you know anyone that want to cash theres in. A quote from GM.....

GM will build an all-new version of the Chevrolet Camaro muscle car based on the award-winning concept that debuted at the Detroit auto show in January 2006. The all-new Camaro was originally scheduled to begin production at the end of 2008 and will go on sale in the first quarter of 2009 for the 2009 model year, but General Motors stated in March 2008 that production would be delayed until February 2009 with the Camaro going on sale in the spring of 2009 for the 2010 model year. Initially, the coupe will be released and will have an extended 2010 model year run. The convertible will follow several months after the coupe and will also be available for the 2010 model year.
At a glance it would seem that the only difference between the coupe and convertible would be the roof and Hugger Orange pearl tri-coat paint job with a pair of dark gray racing stripes, but this is not the case. Besides the obvious convertible top, there are subtle changes to the exterior as well. Every surface was changed from the door-cut back. The rear fenderlines drop off from the horizontal surface to the vertical surface a couple of inches farther out than on the coupe to keep proportions good and the rear spoiler was reshaped. The 21 inch front and 22 inch rear wheels were also redesigned and a thin orange line was applied to the outer edge, a nod to redwalls available circa 1969.
There are many interior changes that were incorporated into the new concept. The retro houndstooth-pattern seats of the coupe were replaced with leather moderne and orange stitching. The metal finishes, accent panel finishes, and seats are all different colors. The rear seats are 6 inches closer together to make room for the tonneau cover. The clarity of the circular gauges in square frames were improved by making the faces white with black chrome numbers and a red anodized needle. The deep-dish three-spoke steering wheel and four-pack gauge cluster carryover over from the coupe concept. Chrome seatbelt buckles are designed to look like the iconic belts buckles in late 1960s GM cars. This reworked interior of the Camaro Convertible Concept is now a very close representation of what will be seen in the production version of the Camaro.

The Charger looks okay in pics. That is until you park it next to a Vintage Challenger or Cuda. Then they look like a swollen version of what was a an okay looking car. This link has a pic of them together.

IMO the new one loses any appeal it might have had shown that way. Of course this is only my opinion and others may disagree. :)

I'm sure if Chrysler wanted a carbon copy they would have gone that route... Funny how they have sold every 2008 produced alrady...

Here are a few nice pictures of Challenger comparisons (http://forums.michiganclassics.com/showthread.php?t=1984)

I was talking to a guy yesterday that is currently working on the engine combos for the new Camaro. It will be built in Oshawa Ontario. I tried to pry out of him the motor combos but he could not tell me. Apparently there will be a V6 5 speed that will be very peppy. But no specifics I mentioned fuel economy on the V/8, and they would probably need the fuel economy system that is on the Corvette. He said that would be a good idea but would not tell me. Short of strapping him down and pulling out fingernails I wasn't getting any specifics from him. LOL They are all sworn to secrecy. He said also mentioned the Feb. start date with releases in the spring of 2009 with a model date 2010.
Can't wait to see them and I am hoping they will be in the same price area as the Mustangs. Both Ford and Chrysler have done a good job on the retro cars, and I am sure GM will not drop the ball. I have seen the prototype and any of the mules I have seen pictures of have been pretty close. The pictures of the interior have been very close to the 69 with console and guages.
We shall see.

I know it's a small number, but the Mopar people are pretty excited as are quite a few people about the Camaro. Honestly the Challenger it is a great looking car in person, inside and out

I also think the old Challenger and Cuda were better looking than the new one. The new one is just to big looking reminds me of the Charger.

Looking at this thread I'm still not seeing a Camaro pic, LOL. Seriously I don't think GM is attempting to build a retro Camaro, that's obvious. It's just the new gen Camaro and that's okay. Park one of the prototypes next to a 69 and there's not much in common. That's okay because they never said they set out to do a retro like Ford and Mopar did, we put that label on the car.

That's too bad. I'll keep my 67...built right here in the heartland. Sorry guys, but I think GM could have done this at home, you know, considering all that is at stake.

Just like a MOPAR, your comparison link is slow :D. Just more pics to validate my perception. The new one looks like a swollen up cousin to the old one. Oversized and overpriced. Since they lack vision going retro, does that mean they will continue the progression since gas prices are going to stifle sales of these new gas hogs? Can we expect the next retro Challenger to be like the 79?:

:D:D

What's that Rodney Dangerfield line form Caddyshack? "Oh but it looks good on you" :D:D

It's all good. I'm glad some one likes them. Hate to see them have to sit on a lot wasting away. Better for them to get bought and put in peoples' garages as they will think they have a collectable.

For all of them being sold, sure seem to be a bunch of them being resold on Ebay already.......

The ram's head emblem on the hood and steering wheel takes away from the performance aspects of the design, IMHO. I'm used to seeing it perched on old dodge pickups. Subtle chrome or stainless "DODGE" letters in its place or none at all would look better.

The Ram is to Dodge what the bowtie is to Chevy these days.

They had three in a row at a local Cruise night last week :D
