zdld17 May 17th, 08, 02:46 PM I agree IMO. I like the sleeper look.
gramps68 May 17th, 08, 02:58 PM Im with Don....Sleeper look.....always fun to pull up the front tires from a stop with a "stock" looking car....gets everyones attention!
Tacoma Tom May 17th, 08, 03:11 PM I am not surprised that someone with the name "gramps" doesnt like it, you probably dont like rock and roll either lol.
No i am kidding really, i just like the attention and you dont see many street cars driving around with a hood like this. Next comes paint. Unless i can think of something better i am gonna paint the car black. Maybe with some of the flames, true fire style on the front.
Badbird May 17th, 08, 03:30 PM Do you have a pic of the rear of the vehicle?....I want to check out the wheelie bar!:D:hurray:
camaroman7d May 17th, 08, 05:35 PM The hood is not bad but, doesn't fit the look/style of your car. That hood would look much better if your car was low and didn't have the rear tires sticking out. The hood is modern and the stance of your car is early to mid 70's. A square scoop would fit the look of your car better. Better yet get the stance right (correct the back spacing and sit the car down over the tires) and that hood will look good. You just have to have the power to back up the "look". Just my opinion since you were asking, I usually keep my mouth shut.
Oh and the vinyl top doesn't go with the scoop either.
m21man May 17th, 08, 05:38 PM I sure wouldn't mess with you.
speedfreek May 17th, 08, 05:50 PM I like the look! Deffinately looks mean. But like "camaroman" said, if you look that mean, you better have something to back it with. :D
thedugan May 17th, 08, 07:42 PM What does the car run in the qtr? With all the show does it have the go?
XLexusTech May 17th, 08, 08:05 PM Cops will like it :-)
m21man May 17th, 08, 08:20 PM yes cops will target you like nothing else... be careful
Camaro69RagTop May 17th, 08, 08:27 PM When I had my 69 coupe with the square snorkle scoop about everybody that thought they had a fast car and ones that didnt were always wanting to race. It more or less says I want to race everyone. Thats was what I got from it.:)
gramps68 May 17th, 08, 08:39 PM I am not surprised that someone with the name "gramps" doesnt like it, you probably dont like rock and roll either lol.
DANG....love ROCK and ROLL....old and new...anything from Led Zeplin, Metalica, ZZ top, to Rage and Beasty Boys....even stuff like Fat boy Slim....
I just had a sleeper way back when....before I needed Grecien formula and Viagra.... used to pull the front tires up off the ground, caught a bunch of attention....even from the local cops, which was costly even then LOL:beers:
Tacoma Tom May 17th, 08, 09:00 PM The rear end will come later, right after the cash shows up lol, for right now the tires/wheels i got will have to do.
Dont know what it will do in the 1/4 yet, hope to find out this year. I would be happy with 11:30 w/o NOS, dont know if i am close or not with my engine combo.
middleagecrisis May 17th, 08, 10:08 PM yes cops will target you like nothing else... be careful
Yea, especially since it looks like your running slicks. That's begging for a ticket, or a wreck if you caught in the rain. At least get some treaded race tires.
Tacoma Tom May 17th, 08, 10:25 PM I dont think i will be out in the rain. No wipers. Cops are not anything to worry about unless you are doing something stupid. They can look at me all they want, they can even pull me over i dont care cause i dont street race and i have insurance ect.
77wolf10.85 May 18th, 08, 06:37 AM needs some stickers
:D
pdq67 May 18th, 08, 06:52 AM Will it pass a "through the windshield" visual test?
I think you have to have such and such unobstructed view height-wise if not mistaken so you can get a 100 percent view of what's in front of you while driving is all.
pdq67
SixtyAte May 18th, 08, 08:36 AM Yea, especially since it looks like your running slicks. That's begging for a ticket, or a wreck if you caught in the rain. At least get some treaded race tires.
Look good....they are not slicks (bald) they have grooves.
Kev
camaroman7d May 18th, 08, 09:05 AM I wouldn't really worry to much about the cop thing. I drove around with an 8-71 blower sticking out of the hood and never once got hassled. As long as you don't get a reputation, they will leave you alone.
prostreet69camaro May 18th, 08, 11:46 AM I agree with Royce. I have been driving around with a blower sticking out the hood for 3 years with no problems. I do have my wife riding shotgun watching out for the passenger side since I cant see to much on that side. She just yells at me all the time when I get close to something. LOL

.gearhead. May 18th, 08, 09:31 PM The hood is overkill for that car, IMHO. If you're not in the 7's, re-consider... ;)

Yup down here that scoop is an open invite to race. It's one thing to draw attention, but another thing to draw to much unwanted attention.
LT1RUNNER May 19th, 08, 11:25 AM Sweet. The more people that dont like it the more i think its growing on me :)
Ditto!! Make it look rugged as hell. We need more Muscle cars to look just like their name says. MUSCLE CARS!! If you have the power to back it up then sweeeeet!!

Hey orange67vert,
Since you were "right on the money" with the "Mullet", I could use this weekends lottery numbers!!!!!
Hey Tom,
I think a tunnel ram would look good under that hood scoop!!!
racin67cam May 19th, 08, 09:32 PM Them rear tire sticking out take me back to the early 70's when we would jack up the rear with air shocks and shackles, have the tires sticking way out and go bouncing down the road, sure was fun. Lot of good memories.
Tacoma Tom May 19th, 08, 10:09 PM No i am kidding. That isn't me. :) I wish it was that dude looks like he knows how to PARTAY!
Rodder May 19th, 08, 11:50 PM Hey, whats wrong with a MULLET? :D:D:D;)

Everett#2390 May 21st, 08, 04:17 AM As long as it has a leaky exhaust with one tailpipe dangling as in no hangar, it would be good to go!
Eric68 May 21st, 08, 06:08 AM I think the Mullet is a better fit for a guy that wears red, white, and blue bell bottoms and drives an AMC (of any type) with glitter paint.
It's not so much a Camaro thing -- although I did like the video :D
Old baldguy May 21st, 08, 09:42 AM This Thread is gonna end up like Back Yard Buried Treasured :D,I can see it now Mullet's for everyone :yes:young and old ,Male /Female/Dog or Cat ,Mullet's come back will blamed on Team Camaro ,Get a free mullet hair cut and 0 % intrest with every new 09 Camaro...Apple pie and Chevrolet together we can be Mullet Happy Motoring :hurray::thumbsup::cool:

musclecarjohn May 22nd, 08, 12:58 PM Sweet. The more people that dont like it the more i think its growing on me :)
Well then, why do you need someone else's opinion to validate what you do with your car?
It's not my style but then again...it's your car,do what you see fit with it...and call it a day.
Granny's 69 May 22nd, 08, 02:10 PM IMHO- thinking Mullet hair, Van Hallen t shirt,...
The mullet hair and Van Halen t-shirt thing reminds me of the movie Joe Dirt. :D
It seems when a car looks pro street style, everyone is itchin' to race you...(or the cops want to pull you over). It's your car, so do what makes you happy...
greg1ontheedge May 23rd, 08, 12:48 PM Since this started as a discussion about scoops and things stickin through the hoods of cars, check out (if you haven't already) the '69 on BelairBob's public profile. I don't think I ever saw anything so purdy sticking through the hood of a Camaro. That is one sweeeeeet ride...
Tacoma Tom May 24th, 08, 10:17 PM Well since i like the hood ( and i accidentally threw a hammer and stuck the claw end through my other hood) i am gonna keep it on for now, at least if i can figure out how to mount the dzus fasteners on so that the hood locks down straight (Any tips?).
I will post some more pics after the car gets painted. Maybe with some new skin it wont look so old school :)
Thanks for all the opinions and especially that tino martino video, man does that bring back the memories.
Tom
camaroman7d May 25th, 08, 09:38 AM Tom,
The hood is not "old school" it just doesn't match the style of your car (IMO). Once it's painted and you get the back end of your car down and the tires tucked it, the hood will look much better. You don't need to buy a new rear end you just need to get the correct backspacing and width on your wheels. About mounting the hood, line it up where you want it and mark the center of each fastener, once that's done you just have to measure how far away from the fenders, cowl, etc.. the center of the fastener is. Now you know where you have to mount the other half of the dzus. You may have to modify the bottom half of the fastener to get them where you want them.
Granny,
That is not "Pro Street". Pro Street cars are tubbed and sit down over the tires, most have roll cages, some have wings, wheelis bars, parachutes, etc... The idea of Pro Street was for the car to look like the "Race Cars" you see/saw at the track but, be street driveable.
77wolf10.85 May 25th, 08, 10:28 AM Well since i like the hood ( and i accidentally threw a hammer and stuck the claw end through my other hood) i am gonna keep it on for now,
Tom
Hell I like your hood fine Tom, and I like your logic even more:D
Still think it needs stickers:)
Tacoma Tom May 25th, 08, 10:37 AM Pro Street in my opinion is any car that is built with racing in mind but still has the equipment to drive on the street. I would consider my car pro street. Why not? I dont think there are any rules governing the width of a tire to be in a pro street class is there?
As far as my back-spacing goes I cannot get the tire "in" any further with going to a narrowed rear axle. The tires are almost 12" wide and if they were in more they would rub on the leaf springs.
Tacoma Tom May 25th, 08, 10:39 AM Hell I like your hood fine Tom, and I like your logic even more:D
Still think it needs stickers:)
I want to put stickers on it, i have always liked that look. I have a box full of them too. Will probably wait till i paint it though.
