: Proform Street Series carb
Mike68RS May 17th, 08, 09:14 PM I want a new carb for my 68 and was considering this new Proform Street Series carb: http://www.northernautoparts.com/ProductModelDetail.cfm?ProductModelId=16909
I'm currently running a 355 with 10:1 CR, a 3310 750 VS carb, Lunati solid cam 243/251, 518"/.530, Trick Flow aluminum heads, Thorley Tri-y's with 3:55 gears and a TKO600.
It seems like a great carb for the price. I especially like the electric choke and billet metering and base plates.
Think it's a good choice for a street driven car?
Thanks,
Mike
musclecarjohn May 17th, 08, 09:56 PM Biggest POS ever made.
Talk to any carb guy, they are just junk. Those billet metering blocks seem to have tiny shavings where they've been drilled and they have a serious reputation for going lean @ WOT while running rich at idle.
I have a blown up 302 in my garage that ran perfectly fine 15 minutes before I installed that carb on it.
There is a reason why Summit stopped selling them and now I know why...after a very painful lesson.
I would not trust anything Proform makes...not even their tools.
Avoid,avoid,avoid...
smits67 May 18th, 08, 07:31 AM Give AED Performance in Richmond Va. a try. I have had very good luck with them. Great quality, wonderful customer service.
Call them and ask for John Dickey. They will make you a Holley specific to your application.
Mike68RS May 18th, 08, 07:45 AM Thanks for the opinions guys. The reason why I though it was a good deal is that these are assembled at the Quick Fuel facility in Bowling Green, KY and are identical to Quick Fuel's own Super Street Series.
Here is the comparison:

Any other thoughts?
Mike
smits67 May 18th, 08, 09:05 AM I have had no trouble with Proform carbs. I just prefer AED for their quality and customer service.
musclecarjohn May 19th, 08, 11:14 AM Talk to Patrick James over @ www.pro-system.com he'll tell you what he does with Proform carbs when he sees them...round file...and he builds a HELL of a carb.
orange67vert May 19th, 08, 06:17 PM I've got a 750 pro form that i bought off E-bay and didn't put it on the car right away, I have had 3 different drag racer's try a work on it and they couldn't get working right. I called the carb shop out in Cal and he said he wouldn't even work on it, said they were junk. I called Patrick with Prosystems and he told me the money i would put into fixing it i should just buy a new carb thats what i did. I'm very happy with the prosystem carb, So now i'm stuck with a POS That i look at every time I go in the garage.

That makes two of us I guess then...except I have a very hurt 302 that ran perfect before I put that POS on it.
15 %^&*$@! minutes it was on...
Mike68RS May 20th, 08, 06:24 AM O.k guys, no Proform for me. :noway:
While the AED and Prosystems carbs sound great, I really can't afford to spend close to $600 on a carb right now.
Do you think this Holley is a good choice?

foreverlookin May 20th, 08, 07:17 AM Whats the sediment on the Demon carbs?
TJS69 May 20th, 08, 07:59 AM I have a Proform distributer, on the shelf and if it is any indication of their quality, I wouldn't buy anything, that says Proform on it. I am now running a high quality piece from Performance distributers. It took a while for the auto performance industry to get the Taiwan and Chinese Junk, but they are now here and it looks like their usual strides !

Mike68RS May 20th, 08, 11:35 AM I got off the phone with AED, they actually recommended their 750 HO carb with my setup. Gonna think about it.

Mike68RS May 21st, 08, 08:35 AM Well, I ordered the AED 750 HO this morning. :D
I can't wait to install it.
Mike
Mike68RS May 27th, 08, 05:21 PM Just an update. I installed my new AED 750 HO double pumper carb this weekend. I bolted her up checked the float levels, adjusted the idle mixture screws and idle speed and took it out for a ride.
All I can say is WOW! :D The throttle response is great, no bog, hesitation or flat spots anywhere. I am so glad you guys helped me make a good decision on this one. AED's recommendation of the 750 surprised me a bit, but it seems right on the money.
Thanks again.
Mike
