View Full Version : Riveted sill plates
Pacecarjeff May 18th, 08, 07:48 PM Riveted Fisher Body sill plates.........
Seems DYNACORN and OER are both making Sill plates.
Anyone know who's are better, or more correct?
Dale8346 May 18th, 08, 07:52 PM It would help if we knew the year of your car.

Pacecarjeff May 18th, 08, 07:56 PM Wanted to use them on my 67.
I just can't find any original ones - I have been looking for years.
Aren't 67-69 the same?
Maybe I should pull the originals off my 69 and put them on my 67?
RamAirDave May 18th, 08, 08:00 PM Ive used the IN-76 sill plates from Rick's. Dont remember the packaging, but pretty nice pieces.

Jeff,
Dynacorn and OER are made by Corvex. The riveted versions are the best quality out there right now,and can be had through either Dyna or OER.
Pacecarjeff May 18th, 08, 08:23 PM Thanks Bob,
That is what I thought -- same product.
Do you stock those?
I want to buy a set.

Should have some more coming soon.

How fussy are you? I have a bunch of used originals in the garage. PM me if interested.

Mark Rossiter May 20th, 08, 06:12 AM mark i need a set too, will you sell me a pair for my 69?
I sent you a PM.
Pacecarjeff May 27th, 08, 12:21 PM I got the sill plates - Thanks Mark.
One is great - one is just OK -would still want to find one more -- if you ever find those others.
These are all still keepers - so don't worry.
HOWEVER...
I had also ordered a set of the repro ones
Based on seeing both sets together.
The repros are NOT EVEN CLOSE. - (well - I guess they are "close")
Way to shinny, metal composition is different, not as thick, and the grain/pattern is not even close to being the same.
Could NEVER bring myself to install these reproductions on my car. :clonk:
Anyone need a set of the repros? - Cheap ;)
prostreet69camaro May 27th, 08, 01:17 PM Jeff,
What is wrong with the ones GM sell. Are they different/ dont have rivets? I dont know the difference between them.
Pacecarjeff May 27th, 08, 01:23 PM These repros had the rivets.
But.. just the overall appearance was off.
Way to shinny, metal composition is different, not as thick,
BUT MOSTLY---> the grain/texture/pattern is not the same.
Oh -- Never mind - they are great
With my glowing recommendation - guess I am going to have trouble disposing of these. :)
prostreet69camaro May 27th, 08, 01:39 PM Jeff,
Have you checked out the ones GM still sell. Do they have rivets in them. I have a set on my car but never really checked.

GM Part # 7644760
Pacecarjeff May 27th, 08, 02:09 PM No - I have not seen those - these were from OER
Gary L May 27th, 08, 02:11 PM The GM part does not have the rivets.
Unreal May 27th, 08, 06:17 PM The GM part is not riveted, but I bought a pair, and salvaged a set of rivets from an old beat up set. I ground the back until I could extract the rivets. Then I drilled the new GM ones to accept the rivets, and secured them with a dab of epoxy on the back.

I save my original ones to salvage the rivets. But that sure looks like micro-surgery to do it.:)
Unreal May 27th, 08, 09:06 PM Worth the effort, IMO, as the used rivets have the little crescent mark on the head of the rivet from the rivet tool.
Gary L May 27th, 08, 09:18 PM Maybe I will make that my next mini-project.
prostreet69camaro May 28th, 08, 08:00 PM This is why I like this site. Everyone shares there little ideas.
Thanks, GUYS
tumper May 30th, 08, 06:41 AM I had a question about these and if I don't get a response I will just open a new topic but.....I am in need of the seal plates on both sides of my 68. I am not restoring this to all original so what some of you look for in these things are not needed for me, but I would like to have nice looking sill plates just the same. Out of all the ones out there are there any one brand that is better than the other? Should I buy the ones from GM that were listed in a previous post?
prostreet69camaro May 30th, 08, 09:25 AM The ones from GM are thicker and a better stamping. The repo look good also but I had a seat belt get in between the door and sill plate and it dented pretty easy.
Microgiant May 30th, 08, 10:39 AM I have both the cheapo reproduction and the OER. The OER have the rivets but they are fake rivets...
hokiez28 Jun 24th, 08, 08:05 PM I Found A Set Of NOS If Anyone Is Interested . They Are At www.ls454.com (http://www.ls454.com) They Are Selling For $ 95.00 Each ( This Is Out Of My Price Range ) Thought One Of You Guys May Want Them , They Only Have 2 Available .
Thank You
Ben :beers:
Mark Rossiter Jun 24th, 08, 08:17 PM The NOS GM plates, while of a higher quality than any of the repops, generally do not have the rivets unless they are NOS from many, many years ago. Still, the idea of adding rivets from a donor set of beat up originals to the more recent NOS plates has a lot of merit. Also, be advised that some of the GM NOS plates have a different rib pattern from that of original GM sill plates. Depending on how fussy you are, it may be advisable to compare before buying.
