I suspect there are lots of others out there that own their own business or just work too darn hard and don't take the time off from work that they should. I took last Friday off for no reason other than to swap my transmission. Boy did it feel good !!! Kids in school, everyone else working and I had nothing else on my schedule. There is a holiday for everything else. I suggest we push for a national wrenchin' day. Not sure how it is in other parts of the country but the 3rd Friday in May is the perfect weather for working in the garage with a nice breeze blowing through.

I work for myself, and I work out of my home. My business is a feast or famine kind of thing, but admittedly, I allow myself to be lazy. I'll work to put together a few deals and then cruise for 2wks or more, doing whatever I want. Today, I'll be doing some yard work/landscaping that needs to be done. Even though I sweat my finances at times, I haven't felt this liberated since college days. I don't mean to paint a picture of life being a cake walk for me because it's not. But I've learned not to sweat the small stuff and I truly try to enjoy life. We only travel this path once.

Great idea for those who dont get time to wrench. However I wrench nights and weekends already. My car will never get done if I dont! The problem I have is the wife says I dont spend enough time with her! Shes been a real pain about it, which makes me want to spend even more time in the garage. Man I love wrenching :D.

my wife says the same thing. my engine rebuild/tranny swap turned into a full frame off job. told the wife about two months ago that i'm going to hit the project hard and get it done quickly so we can start enjoying it again. every night a few hours in the garage. saturdays, 10+ hours in the garage. fine for a while but now she's nagging me about spending so much time in the garage. either work like this for another 6 weeks and be done, or drag the project on and have a inop car in the garage for another year.

i'm planning on taking a friday off every other week to get some serious wrenchin time in while she's working to help finish the project. although a national holiday for the occasion would be great.

I am fortunate enough with my job to get lots of time to "wrench". But im all for a national holiday to help anyone else out who needs quality wrench time.
