View Full Version : My 69 console with home made cup holders SS69Cam May 22nd, 08, 04:37 PM Well, what do you all think? Be honest, but be nice.:o http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v390/mtecagov/console.jpg 77thor May 22nd, 08, 04:44 PM I like them. nashcar May 22nd, 08, 05:43 PM I like it, good idea. aaron9252 May 22nd, 08, 05:43 PM I honestly like the idea but not the aluminum/chrome look. I would have preferred all black. BUT, it's still great craftsmanship. SS69Cam May 22nd, 08, 05:51 PM Thanks. I thought about all black, but I have similar trim on the door panels. The rings are polished aluminum and the inserts are aluminum irrigation pipe! Gotta use what ya can! TIM FLANNIGAN May 22nd, 08, 06:09 PM you might be a redneck alanrw May 22nd, 08, 06:37 PM You mean those 2 slight depressions on the inside of the glove box door aren't cupholders? Nothing beats billet. Nice job. alan Fred Ficarra May 22nd, 08, 06:59 PM But whadya do with your 8 TRACK?!!! ascamaro May 22nd, 08, 07:07 PM they kinda remind me of the cup holders in that one tv commercial but they were black, if i could only remember that commercial. :clonk: gramps68 May 22nd, 08, 10:01 PM Kinda like the idea! nice look camsdad May 22nd, 08, 10:23 PM Looks good. Are they off center or do I need new glasses? Can you still open the lid? eville May 22nd, 08, 10:28 PM looks good, can you make me some? I need to get ready for Yellowstone! alanrw May 22nd, 08, 10:41 PM Get one of those lunch box coolers or a small playmate cooler and cut a piece of wood with 2 holes that wedges 1/3 of the way into the cooler. alan SS69Cam May 22nd, 08, 10:54 PM Yes, in my infinite wisdom I measured from center of the front to center in the back- then cut. Always measure twice then cut right. Yeah, the lid angles so its not quite even, but what the hell, it'll still hold my coffee. And yes, the lid does still open and close. Actually, that's why they aren't dead center- the hinge is in the way! Thanks for the comments. I just wanted to try something different that had function. I know its not perfect, but that's not the point. camsdad May 22nd, 08, 11:01 PM Yes, in my infinite wisdom I measured from center of the front to center in the back- then cut. Glad I don't need new glasses! :beers: click May 23rd, 08, 07:39 AM Nice job.. but please resize your photo to around 800x600 so its not at large. Scrolling side to side and up and down makes it hard to really appreciate the end results. Here is mine, I could paint it black if I wanted too but I keep the steel lid in the trunk and just lay it on top of the cup holders at car shows  http://www.carsbyjim.com/storage/Interior/cupholder.JPG SS69Cam May 23rd, 08, 08:14 AM Thanks Jim. Great idea on yours as well. I have resized the pic with a new link. click May 23rd, 08, 09:06 AM  Blade May 23rd, 08, 09:10 AM looks good. SS69Cam May 23rd, 08, 10:38 AM Thanks again for all comments- good or otherwise. I enjoyed doing it, and will be more than pleased once its all back together. Hopefully in time for Hot August Nights. Any Nor Cal folks going up? Microgiant May 23rd, 08, 01:00 PM Are you running a 4-Speed or Auto? Just curious how well this would function when its loaded up and you need to shift. SS69Cam May 23rd, 08, 01:57 PM Are you running a 4-Speed or Auto? Just curious how well this would function when its loaded up and you need to shift. Its a 4 speed, but shouldn't have any issues shifting- so long as I don't have a huge Big Gulp or something in there. 68 Ragtop May 23rd, 08, 02:49 PM they kinda remind me of the cup holders in that one tv commercial but they were black, if i could only remember that commercial. :clonk: You mean this one http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m46/JamesESCA/IMG_1435.jpg?t=1200197894 I found this same cup holder at Auto Zone, and am still considering modifying it to fit. SS69Cam May 23rd, 08, 03:24 PM Wow. At Auto Zone huh? Thanks for solving that riddle. That one looks good too- but I still like mine better! 69isfine May 26th, 08, 08:53 AM Anyone ever figure out why the shifter only has one side from that clip? firstrs May 26th, 08, 12:49 PM the guy modifed the console cover so maybe he modified the shifter to look more customized? dropit69 May 26th, 08, 12:54 PM i like them only as long as its water or soda in them ....lol.. WV6TY7 May 26th, 08, 12:59 PM I like the concept ! I had been thinking about looking for a console out of a later model to get cup holders but after I bought the manual shift plate for my console that idea is out for a while. I might look at something like you did for my 67. trex70 May 26th, 08, 03:35 PM I have been thinking lately, and i don't do it often, but the gum commercial cup holders may be a photo chop type deal and when they did it, they missed the arm on the shifter, just a thought.... ambrola Oct 17th, 08, 10:30 AM I made this one today with 10.00 bucks and a little velcro. http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq305/ambrola/100_1520.jpg BK69 Oct 17th, 08, 10:46 AM I like it Ronnie!!! where did you buy the cup holder at? ambrola Oct 17th, 08, 11:10 AM Auto Zone. I just put velcro on the bottom of the holder and a little piece on my console door. You have to play with it to make it sit level because of the curve on the console lid. Skeeter55 Oct 17th, 08, 04:02 PM You mean this one http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m46/JamesESCA/IMG_1435.jpg?t=1200197894 I found this same cup holder at Auto Zone, and am still considering modifying it to fit.I kinda like this idea. Pro-Street69Camaro468 Oct 17th, 08, 05:33 PM Who needs a cup holder I keep my beer between my legs. The cup holders look good though.... ambrola Oct 17th, 08, 05:45 PM Its to hard to try to keep up with the car with a drink between your legs. I drive the sh** out of my car, the speedo is always over 70. I gotta change those front brakes before they get me killed!! Took my wife and daughter for a ride the other day, and neither will get back in the car. Badbird Oct 17th, 08, 05:49 PM I keep my beer between my legs. Me too, along with my other leg!:beers: dawg Oct 17th, 08, 06:13 PM nice but not my cup O tea! youll lose the storage space underneath. there are other options Skeeter55 Oct 17th, 08, 06:28 PM OK im going to stick to my bottle water and ice chest. KevinW Oct 17th, 08, 06:41 PM Amazon has the old fashioned cup holders :) Amazon.com: Cup Holder Twin-pk: Automotive This one on ebay looks a little like the GM commercial http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Truck-Parts-Accessories__NISSAN-90-96-300ZX-TWIN-CUP-HOLDER-NA-OR-TT-300-ZX_W0QQitemZ250310617229QQadnZCarQ20Q26Q20TruckQ20 PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQadiZ2865QQcmdZViewItem? hash=item250310617229&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C65%3A10%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 http://i23.ebayimg.com/02/i/01/c0/cb/f8_1_b.JPG okiemark Oct 19th, 08, 06:35 PM heck, if it were actually 1969 and you lived in Texas, that would be a great place for a few brewskies. those were the days.
