Hello,
I have the Performer RPM on my small block, and the hole for the temp gauge/light sending unit sits right under the radiator hose with virtually no clearance. I have aluminum heads that don't have any place for the sending unit. Anyone else had this problem, and what did you do about it.
Thanks
RJ

No offense RJ, but are you certain on the heads?

EVERY head (iron or alluminum, factory and aftermarket) that I've ever seen or heard of that was intended for 68 or newer engines has had a pipe tapped hole between the left 2 exhaust ports.

The ONLY heads I've ever seen or heard of without the holes have been factory iron 67 and earlier, the same type that don't have accessory holes in the ends.

"Newer" heads (mid 70's and up?) are tapped 1/8" pipe and the big factory senders won't fit, but there are ways around that.

The only other option I can think of would be a swivel thermostat housing. You should be able to reclock the upper hose aenough to clear your sender without kinking it.

i had same problem. what i did was get a earlier thermostat housig that goes straight out. the hose i used i think came off a 68 firebird with 400 motor. heres a pic of it.

I had the same problem and picked up a thermostat housing that was at a different angle, I also had to change the upper radiator hose.

You can also buy a housing that can be adjusted in any direction.

I have JEGS aluminum heads, which are actually made by Canfield. I will look again, just in case I'm losing my mind, but no holes that I know of.
If none there, I guess I will go with the different thermostat housing. I didn't really want to change hose and such.
Thanks guys,
RJ

I use a swivel housing and stock hose.

I have seen really neat looking Thermohousings with a threaded hole in the top of the housing itself. Look into one of those maybe?
