: Exhaust : Factory look with an aggressive sound???

Hello to all~!
Ok, I have a 99% original Z except for the exhaust.
The car has old headers on it and I plan on leaving those alone. Last summer I had a custom exhaust made for the car. I went with 2.5 inch pipe out the headers to twin 2 chamber mufflers. From the mufflers the exhaust goes to 2 and 1/4 then down to the factory 1 and 7/8 in tail pipes. I wanted the car to sound mean but look stock. It actually does sound pretty dang good and looks very original from the side.
SO, here is my dilemma. I am now not too crazy about the look of the twin flowmasters from the rear/underneath. I do not really want the transverse muffler because all of the ones I have heard are just too quiet in my opion.
I have been looking into getting the bullet style mufflers. That way I can have the clean look from the rear and hopefully a aggressive sound. (bullet mufflers are about 2-4in around and really blend in with the exhaust pipe...)
BUT all of the bullet mufflers I have found are either race mufflers or mufflers that are quieter than what I already have. I do not want the car quieter. If anything it could be a tad louder.
I know, I know...why did I not go with Gardner etc... Well because I am really into musclecars with an aggressive sound. So I am willing to sacrifice originality on a good sounding exhaust, but I would like for it to look somewhat original. Headers are on the car anyway which of course are not factory.
Questions:
Does anyone run the bullet race mufflers that are out there?
Or,is there a transvers muffler that will sound as aggressive as dual 2 chamber flowmasters. As of last summer there was not one out there.
Or, if you have any other ideas please fire away...
I may just have to end up leaving it alone.

Thanks,:beers:
Anthony

the crossflow Flowmaster muffler isn't aggressive sounding enough for you? it's pretty much just a pair of 40 series mufflers welded end to end.
my Nova sounded downright wicked with that exhaust on it with an X pipe right after the headers.
if all you want is loud and don't really care about performance, then run some cheap short glasspacks with small tail pipes. sure, you're giving up 40hp, but at least it's loud and the cops will want to look at your car every time you drive by.

Hmmm, interesting comments. Cops, glasspacks, losing 40 hp. Dang, not real sure how all of this came from my posting.... But thanks anyway.

Just looking for a clean look while keeping an aggressive sound.

I asked if anyone has used the bullet race mufflers....... Wondering if they are too loud.
Remember, I am running the factory 1 & 7/8 in tail pipes which really quiets the sound.

I will probably have to try some different things out.

you want it loud and aggressive sounding, but yet you are in love with the restrictive stock diameter tail pipes to quiet it down?
since you've got the small tail pipes, why bother with expensive race mufflers when some $20 glass packs- or even no mufflers- will do the same job in this case?
