I'm ready to put color on the car and could really use some help. I have a '69 RS that is going to be Rally Green, black vinyl top, with black & white houndstooth deluxe interior. I have looked at hundred's of pictures and haven't come across what I'm looking for.
On the rocker panels, should they be painted black or not? If so, is it flat, semi-gloss, or gloss? Goes it exend around the edge of the front fender and the quarter panel?
Should the top of the dash be body color or black? If body color, where does the black begin?
The pieces of metal that goes inside the rear window, are they gloss black? I've been told they should be the same color as the bottom part of the dash.
Please, I need your help! Pictures would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If I understand the questions correctly, here are my answers/input....

1. The rocker chrome is straight between the fender wells, the chrome trim is centered over the line where the lower rockers are painted black. The rocker is only painted, not the quarter/fender bottoms. It should be semi gloss black I believe, just like the dash top part.

2. I have seen lower dashes painted exterior color on 67/68 but not 69. On black interiors though I believe everything is black. I know on blues, golds, greens, etc... then everything is that color. So in your situation I would use semi gloss on the upper dash and the rear trim metal that is exposed. As for making the lower dash gloss, or semi that is your call. I would leave it semi gloss personally.

I was under the impression that the dash color was dependent upon interior color, not exterior color. For example; if you had a white exterior with blue interior, you should have a blue dash.

That is what I tried to state, sorry if it did not come out incorrect. However I have seen more than couple red 67/68 camaros with a red lower dash and the rest of the interior was black. But never on a 69. It may not be factory correect, but on some color combos it looks good.

Now that I reread your post I see what you mean. I've seen the dash painted exterior color on many '67/'68's as well. In fact, I'll be painting my dash the color of my accent rather than the interior color. On this build, originality isn't one of my key factors and I really do like the appearance of it.

I also agree that on a '69 it may look a little out of place.

To make sure I understand correctly, you are saying the rocker only is painted. The black does not extend onto the front fender or the quarter panel? Just trying to verify. Want to get it right the first time if possible.

Thanks for the help!

Ahh I gotcha your question now, I believe the rocker black does wrap the corner and cover the lower inside lip.

Yes it does extend into the fender/quarter. So you would shoot the lower lip inside fender/quarter lip.
