I need to purchase a new set of hood hinges. I see that most of the resto houses sell GM and repops. Has anyone used the repops and what are your feelings?

Thanks

Bob

69vert,

you might try gmpartsdirect.com

i just checked and they still sell both sides. $58.02 each. new springs for standard and ss hoods are also available thru them. rick's wants $59.00 each (GM). not much savings but pennies do add up.

gmpartsdirect.com usually sticks it to you with shipping...they add the shipping for each piece together (as if they were shipping separate boxes, but they ship in one box), instead of charging for the single box they ship in.

I agree with MD. If the price from gmpartsdirect doesn't include shipping, order from Rick's. They would be better to deal with if there is a problem and the shipping will be cheaper.

I went to down to NPD in Livonia to get mine. They fit and work well.
These guys at NPD are a real pleasure to work with and I've never had a problim with them. Kevin

Before you go out to buy new hinges, why do you think you need them?

I decided to replace them after I discovered that they are a bit bent. Not sure if I can straighten them. I will try to post pics to get your opinion.

Does the hood open and close freely? If they were bend there is usually some serous binding.

It's not rocket science to replate your own hinges. ZINC PHOSPHATING is correct and this is a NON electrical process. A friend with an AWARD winning Camaro kept hearing remarks about the inferior appearance of his NOS himges. He finally replated himself, with MANGANESE Phosphate just to appease all the critics.......
It appears that most shops/people replate the springs along with the hinges, I feel the springs were "something different" and should be removed and painted/plated separately with ????

Martinsr,

The drivers side is binding something aweful. I think I may take them and power clean them at the carwash and then get a better look at them.

I have to say, I have fixed a lot of hood hinges with lubrication. In fact, back twenty years ago (geeez time flies) when I had my 68 RS I used a teflon spray lube on them. The FRIGGIN HOOD WOULDN'T STAY UP ANYMORE! smile.gif
