I converted to power brakes years ago and could never figure out why they were so touchy. The guy that did them had the rod in the top hole still. No as I'm converting to manual tranny I noticed it in switching the pedals.

The rod seems too short to reach the bottom hole. I don't know how much I can unscrew from the master cylinder or if I'm supposed too. Do I just get a splice coupler of the rod and lengthen it that way? I see rods in catalogs for power to manual, but not the other way.

It's been years since I put power disc on my 68 with manual trans. I'm pertty sure I had it in the correct hole but I remember the rod being so short my pedal was at the floor. I just put a 1/4" threaded rod and coupler on it and added a couple of inches. Broguht it up nice and high where my short little legs can reach it.

A coupler nut sounds OK if used with jam nuts, but don't use All-Thread to extend the rod. All-Thread is grade 2, very weak material, it is half the strength of a grade 5 bolt. Look for a stud of the needed length.

Summit sells a rod extender that couples up to the rod on the brake booster. I used it and it works well.
