Ok I have seen posts about this problem before without finding an answer. Wondering if anyone might have found a solution. I have a '68 Camaro that leans to the driver's side about a 1/2". It has done that since I bought it and before everything was replaced. I did a complete suspension rbuild replacing everything. Energy suspension bushings, drop springs in front, shocks, etc... The car still leans to the driver's side.

Subframe clearance to the floor? You should not be able to slide a flat hand, nor your first knuckle of the middle finger, between the subframe and floor halfway between the firewall and rearmost bolt under the seat.

Bottom of subframe under the seats should be on the same plane with each other, no twist in frame.

Unload the extraneous stuff from the car, make it symetrical inside and in the trunk, same tire air pressure. Sit in front of the car on level ground and view the front header of the hood with the windshield. Are they parallel? Does the front sheet metal droop? Radiator and subframe bushings in good repair?

Is there a crack in the upper left corner (top driver side) in the body?

A 1/2 inch isn't bad considering there was no CAD for assembly in the '60's.

Welcome to the club.

Thanks, I will check that. All the bushings were replaced with Energy suspension bushings.

Did you wait to tighten down the rear suspension parts until car was on the ground and under normal load? I have even heard of guys putting weight in driver side equal to their weight and then tightening down the rear shackles/leafsprings etc... The driver side always seems to sag some because there is always someone in the drivers seat when its in use, so that side alwasy sits a lil lower after a while.

Is the problem with the front or rear suspension?

Just wondering because mine is the same way, but it seems to be on the rear. My car was being setup for drag racing when I bought it. The rear end was narrowed and I was told the springs were setup so the car would be a bit higher on the pass side so the weight would transfer on launch and the car would sit level under power.

I have 2 inch lowering block in the rear now. I may just change the block on one side so it sits level. I'm not sure if that would lead to any handling problems though.

Thanks for all the replys. I tightened down the leaf springs while letting them hang. Guess I will try to loosen them. Yes I did replace all the subframe bushings as well.

Dan, The car sits lower on the driver's side front and rear. I have 2" drop springs in front and a multi leaf pack in the rear that I took a leaf out to lower the rear.

Mine doesn't sit perfectly level either - I figure I can't look at both sides at the same time anyway so decided it wasn't worth being labled as a "problem." Very nice lookin car by the way.

I 'm going to use coilovers just so I can cheat by adjusting if needed to keep things level.

Is one of the front coil springs not indexed properly so the pig tail sets in the recess? Could be a possibility.

It "seems" the rear of these cars have more influence on the front, than vice versa.

I would check the rear setup first.

I dont know if this is a good way to do it but its what i did. I put the rear wheels on 2 blocks the same size then i jacked up the drivers side till the rear body lines where the same distance to the floor, then tightened everything up. Is not perfect but it seems to set level now. it was nearly an inch off.
I still consider myself a novice mechanic, so maybe someone with more knowedge can give a better solution.
