Hi..I am taking out my brake assy and replacing it with a 4 speed brake/clutch assy from another camaro. Can the whole assy be taken out without removing the steering colunm? I have the brake cylinder off and I can see only 3 nut/bolts under dash, holding the whole assy in (besides the bolts through the firewall). Anny help would be appreciated...thanks

That's it, four bolts on the front/firewall side and three nuts holding the steering column to the dash braces. The brake bracket is just sandwiched between the column mount and the dash braces, so once you lower the column, the bracket will come out. It may have a thin sheetmetal speed/sping nut on one or more of the column brace bolts.

You don't need to remove the assembly to change the pedals.
All you need to do is remove the pins that holds the brake pedal in assembly and to the master cylinder.
Installation of the new pedals is the reverse, only the clutch pedal becomes the pin that holds the brake pedal in the assembly.
The whole job can be done with a flat blade screwdriver to remove the clips holding the pins in place.
If you have a complete brake/clutch assembly already out of the car, it should be very apparent how it comes apart.
You do however, have to be a bit flexible to work upside down under the dash!

Thanks guys...I took out the 3 bolts under the dash and the support rods that go up under the dash also. That speed spring nut was no match for a big flatblade screw driver. I took off the plate that the bolts to the column and everything is loose. I just cant wiggle out the whole assy. I have the other assy and can see how it all goes together but the front of the bracket seems to need more room to come forward to get the 4 studs through the firewall. I'll keep messing with it tonight and try to lower the coumn to give me some room. If I cant get the whole thing out I'll try to just change the pedals.
Thanks for the info !

I removed the whole assy after dropping the column thanks! I just have hopefully one last question: I dont see a clutch pedal bumper on the assy. I am puting in pedals from another camaro. Is there a bumper stop for the return of the clutch pedal? My pedal is free swinging and will touch metal if brought back too far. Does the bar that connects from the pedal to the Z-bar dictate where it stops? Sorry for all the questions, the assy is on my bench and dont want to have to take it out again. Does anyone have a pic? Thanks!
Heres what I have

Yes, there is a rectangular rubber bumper that fits in the rectangular hole where the clutch pedal hits on return.
It is easily installed later when the assy is in place.
All the vendors sell them, some I have found are different thicknesses. I like to use one that puts the clutch and brake at the same hieght.

Hey Doug...yeah I guess. I am slow as molasses and doing everything myself kinda burns me out. I plan on this fall. Dropping the motor in probably next weekend if the kids dont drag me away from the garage :) At least I got paint on the car.
How about you? Are we still racing who gets done 1st? :)
