having just completed a frame off restoration on my '69 coupe I have a question on the reassembly of the inner fender wells and fenders. what order should I assembly these as not to scratch or ding up the new paint. (1) Attach the fender well to the fender and re-attach. (2) Attach fender wells first then the fender. or (3) attach fender followed by inner fender wells. The car has air. What the best approach........

Bolt the inner fender to the fender first then install as one unit to car. Get help with this because the fenders become heavy and bulky to handle.

In the past I have assembled the entire front sheet metal (fenders, wheelhouses and core support) and installed them as a unit. I should caution you that it will take at least 2 people to do this and 3 would be better.
Be sure to mask the front edges of the doors prior to installing the front end. Use 2" tape. This sounds funny, but it works- Stick the 2" tape to your clean pants before you tape it to the door edges. It will take just a little of the adhesive off the tape in case someone didn't sand the door edges really well.
Pay particular attention to the BOTTOM of the fenders as you install the front end. The lower rear edges of the fenders are what will come in contact with the doors if you are not real careful.
