View Full Version : Aftermarket Gauges in OER Console?
rideelement247 Jun 3rd, 08, 03:05 PM So I am looking to replace my console with this from Eckler's(note: I know I need the lids and ashtrays, etc):

Anyone know if aftermarket gauges will fit, and if so what size? I am looking specifically at the Autometer Cobalt series for Volts, Water Temp, and Oil Pressure.
I know of a fiberglass guy that could probably make the housing to fit into the console for my custom gauges, but that might be a big PITA and costly. Any oppinions? Reason for wanting the gauges there is that I have them under where my radio is in the center dash, but the screws keep popping off and the gauges fall from time to time. Just want something that looks cleaner.
johnnysalami Jun 3rd, 08, 03:17 PM have you seen these?

rideelement247 Jun 3rd, 08, 03:26 PM Looks like they go in the instrument panel, no? I prefer to have them in front of the shifter if possible. I guess if worst comes to worst I can get it custom made or mounted better under the radio.
rideelement247 Jun 3rd, 08, 03:28 PM Edit: Nevermind, checked their site and found the 4 gauge cluster that fits. Thanks.
rideelement247 Jun 3rd, 08, 05:12 PM Actually, does the 4 gauge cluster go where the stock speedo/fuel gauges are? Or does it go in front of the shifter on the console?

what cluster are you talking about?

Console.
All the major vendors carry them, no need to create your own.

rideelement247 Jun 4th, 08, 10:53 AM Is there anywhere I can get the panel for the center console, not replacing the radio/heater controls? I want it in the console in front of my 4 speed shifter. The CS3/Covan's 4 gauge apparantly replaces the radio/heater panel with gauges :(. Looks like I have to get a custom job done :(.
BTW: the photo linked above is for a 68-69. I have a 1967. Sorry, forgot to mention that.
guccieng Jun 4th, 08, 02:29 PM we're talking about two different panels here: one goes on the 67-68 center dash with 4 holes for gauges, the other is in the forward part of the factory console for 68-69 in front of the shifter, also with 4 gauges. if you use the center dash one, you will have to remove your heater controls, a/c vent (if you have one) and ashtray. you mentioned the 'center console' with radio/heater. those two things are not in the same place.

I guess I did not clarify well enough. I want my gauges to go in front of the shifter on the center console. Not on the dash.

The ones that you posted in the original post for a 67 console. The ones 68ragtop posted are for a 68-9 console. Both of those styles go on the console but will not interchange, completely different animals. If you are interested in a 68-9 one, I have one that I am looking to sell (I converted to the covans dash).

No thanks, but thanks for the offer. I am going to get a custom piece made that will hold 3 gauges and hope it turns out good. My mechanic did a custom fuel injected LS2 in a 69 with custom dash and console and 6 speed transmission. I trust he can make something work for me :).

I hope so, because that's exactly what I plan on doing. I have all of the parts except for the Autometer gauges. I am going into this assuming the 2-1/16" guages will drop right in as that is a common size for gauges. If not, it shouldn't be too difficult to either shim or trim the gauge openings in the console housing.

I am just going to get a piece custom fiberglassed for the 3 gauges. I guess if people are interested I could tell the fabricator to save the design and measurements and people could just shoot me a message or something if they want me to get them one made as well. I'm dropping the car off Monday to get rewired completely as well as a custom fiberglass piece for a new radio(Pioneer) as well as get the custom gauge pod made. Then about a week or 2 weeks and everything should be cleaned up to take pictures. I'll keep you updated.
booman55 Jun 7th, 08, 06:45 PM Does anyone know what's involved with modifying the console harness connections to convert from stock gauges to Autometer gauges?
The mechanical seems like a no brainer. Can you just change the connectors on the harness to fit the Autometer gauges?
