View Full Version : Good source to order PPG products
ray moore Jun 4th, 08, 05:10 AM I had decided on a particular vendor but have decide to go with PPG or shopline products instead. Starting with Epoxy primer and then later High Build, BB/CC etc.
What is a good source to order product from?
I am in Dayton Ohio
Thanks
Ray
Rocketrod Jun 4th, 08, 05:57 AM Go to a local paint supply company. Sure you may be able to save a few bucks on-line, BUT the advice you will recieve from a local supplier will be invaluable (it was to me anyway). Also if you forget something, or run out of materials, you can run down to the local store and get what you need immediately.

Check tcpglobal online, they sell house of kolor paint which is a great paint/good price. They also have their own brand called restoration shop paints that match oem finishes. This paint is supposedly valspar paints that they have bought in huge quantities and mix onsite before shipping.
ldrisner Jun 4th, 08, 02:16 PM How about Moore's paint store on Jefferson ave there in Dayton. Maybe they will give you a "moore" discount.
Looks like they sold out!

Truth is as a newbie I know little about which brands to pick. I had a vendor (which I will not name) picked out and was set to go. But after finding out some more info decided to go with a better well known brand instead. Everyone seems to mention PPG so I figured it was a good choice. But I am all about best bang for the buck. I am really looking for good choices. House of Kolor I have heard of so will check them out.
Any other choices I will consider.
I am looking for black epoxy primer first and then High Build (for later) to start.

Does Ohio Auto Kolor sell various brands.paint guns etc.
Thanks

ochrisl Jun 4th, 08, 07:46 PM Ray all the big companies have the same technology and their products very similar. People have their favorites.just like some guys like Fords and others like Chevys. A lot is brand loyalty and what you are used to using. If you drove caddilacs your whole life and you hop in a VW you may hate it.Doesn't make it a bad car, just not what your used to. So PPG is not better than Dupont and BASF is not better than Sikkens. You can get excellent results out of any of them. Being new to it all your Biggest concern is the support and convienience of a local store. So what i would suggest is find a paint supply store close to you and go with what they sell.
Winch Jun 5th, 08, 07:24 PM Can i ask a related question. I want to paint my 68 the color I saw on a 2001 Silverado. I looked it up and I'm pretty sure it's Wooldand Green. Knowing that, does it limit what brand paint I can buy or would all these brands we're talkng about have that specific color?
ochrisl Jun 5th, 08, 07:45 PM All major brands can do any oem colors.
ray moore Jun 5th, 08, 08:03 PM Hi ochrisl
I am taking your advice. I am trying to track down the nearest paint supplier to me in Ohio. I like the idea of being face to face with the supplier. Luckily with this forum good advice is just a post away.
Thanks again
Ray
Arai Jun 5th, 08, 08:07 PM I usually will agree that going through a local shop is great because the info you will get can be good. I, however, had POOR service at the shop I bought my PPG at and the guy had zero personality and was borderline rude. The problem is that I can't find another shop within 100 miles that sells the same stuff. Also......dont think you will be able to get it cheap.......I bought a gallon of DP90, 2 qrts hardener, wax/grease remover, some white towels, 2 cans of rubber undercoat, and a few other misc things and it was $400. The DP90 was $145/ga.
Great product......but about as cheap as gas these days.... :)

+1 for Tcpglobal. I used their Restorers Choice BCCC set up on my old 68 Chevelle & was very pleased with the results. It was also very inexpensive, at about a 1/3 of the price when compared to PPG.
