Myfirst 69SS

Tried this over in elecrical and no responses, hoping someone here helps.
First question maybe a dumb one, when I transfer the terminals and resistor over to the new center fuel gauge do they mount up right onto the back of the metal gauge or do I need some sort of an insulator from the back of the metal gauge? Only asking because I noticed the old gauge had the plastic gauge cluster between it and the terminals & resistor.
Second, when doing the conversion what do you use for a light?
Thanks

I don't understand your first question. The wiring that goes to your current fuel guage will instead go to the center fuel guage. It's the same connections. You may have to unravel some of the harness tape to allow the wire to reach.
For another light, you can splice into one of the existing two lights (that light the speedo or tach) with a like socket and pigtail. The aftermarket has what you need or go to a junk yard and cut out the dash wiring you need. It's pretty common if you can find a yard with older cars. Seems the wires are black and gray with a black push-in socket.
Pretty straight-forward stuff. Let me know if you get stuck.

So, Straight line-69... I want to do the same, and add a repro tach where the fuel gauge was. easy hard,? cutting y/n? Do i need a special harness for the new tach. It has a tach on the column which I hate..

first69SS you do not need the resistor that is on your original fuel gauge. the repro center gauges have them built in. just plug the existing 3 wire plug into your new gauge and it will work

I did not use a resistor when I converted mine, but my fuel gage reads low. (empty with 3/8 tank) I used a repop pick-up, but have since purchased a new GM one. Will try that before I blame it on the gage.
