My frame has the typical rusted/worn body mount points. I ordered the patch set; my question is how do I install them? By that I mean do I grind and cut the mount points to fit the plates or just set the plates on the top of it and weld? Or grind to fit underneath and weld. What have you guys done or suggest? The rear hole is now about the size of a silver dollar.

my center two mounts were a little thin. but the original sized holes were still there. i just welded around and around. then ground it all out flat. looks better than new. if the cancer isn't too bad that might be an option.

Actually I meant the center mounts. They are way to worn to just weld up. So I bought the repair kit. Just looking for best way to weld them in. I'm leaning towards grinding them to fit from the bottom and welding.

I used a torch and a steady hand after laying out the center points of the new repair ring.
It is easyier then it looks if you take your time and check the Fisher body manual for the measurements.
After laying it out I used chalk to mark the outside of the repair ring and then cut up to the marks a little at a time checking fit until I was satisfied. I did use a die grinder to clean up the final hole before welding.
The welding started by clamping the repair ring onto the prepared hole and then checking the measurements AGAIN, I tacked welded the repair. Once I was happy with the way the repair ring was positioned. I welded it into place then grinded it smooth.
I was very pleased with the way it looked. I took pictures and will try to post them. http://www.8ballracing.com/firstdaypaint%20026.jpg http://www.8ballracing.com/firstdaypaint%20025.jpg http://www.8ballracing.com/firstdaypaint%20027.jpg http://www.8ballracing.com/firstdaypaint%20032.jpg http://www.8ballracing.com/firstdaypaint%20029.jpg http://www.8ballracing.com/old%20blue%20004.jpg

Excellent pics 8 Ball. Perfect size for the forum too. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I fabbed my own and welded them on top of the mounts. I used .125 plate and used templates to make them. I still ended up trimming them afterwards. I rolled the frame back under the body, put the plates on the mounts WITH the solid body mounts and bolts in place, centered the frame to the body and then tacked the plates in place. Rolled it out and finish welded them in place. It was a pain in the butt but I know the frame will be centered right and will give me equal movement forward\backward and side-to-side.

Well I unsuccessfully tried to weld up my repair patches to my frame. I realized they are galvanized! I tried to burn off the zinc using my torches and then grinding them down. Still wouldn't weld for crap! Any suggestions on how to get rid of the zinc completely?

Are you using the 'rings' like 8 Ball used, or full shaped plates?
Like I said, I made my own out of cold-rolled plate that you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot.
These are 3/16" plate but I remade them out of 1/8".
