I found out a little more about the swap meet/car corral. Apparently, the old swap meet/car corral wasn't under the control of hot August Nights(HAN), it just ran at the same time as HAN at the livestock events center.
HAN issued a contact to Western Pacific Events,

My wife and I will be there... unfortunately the camaro will not!! Not quite ready yet. I go every year and visit the ol' man so lodging for me is cheap!! We'll have to look for some camaros in the area and stop and say hi. I would love to put a face to all these names on here. See you there.

What :noway: - the swap is STILL at the Reno Livestock Center
Here's a link to the swap info - http://www.westernpacificevents.com/rem_venues/index.htm
The Arco Swap is not affiliated with the Western Pacific Events/HAN-Reno swap guys anymore - them boys been feudin' over the swap for years now and last year the "Reno Swap Meet Inc." boys got peaved at the HAN folks for something and decided to take off on their own - again*.
Soooo - the 'Model-A' guys will have the ARCO all to themselves this year ...

* it's been an 'on-again/off-again' thing for years now with them disagreeing on scheduling ...

ps: will be up at the lake the whole week, not sure what day(s) we'll head over to HAN yet ...

As a representative of Hot August Nights in Reno, NV, I would like to clarify the inaccurate information in regards to the Swap Meet being “moved” or non-existent this year (2008). That information is completely false. The Swap Meet will be held at the Reno Livestock Events Center as it has in years past and will run from 7am-6pm August 7th, 8th, and 9th. The erroneous nature of the rumors that the Reno Hot August Nights Swap Meet & Nostalgia Faire has been cancelled or moved are completely unfounded and without fact.
The Hot August Nights Swap Meet will take place for 2008 in Reno, NV and will include The Nostalgia Faire, Cool Car Show Room, and outdoor Car Corral.
It is the only Official Swap Meet, Nostalgia Faire and Cool Car Showroom of Hot August Nights and will be operated by Bob Davies, owner of Western Pacific Events (530)307-9999

And the "Reno" swap meet is in Sacramento ...
Got it

Just kidding with ya Mr. Maddox :D
If I hadn't already sent the nice PM I got from John & Evonne into the trash, after trying to set this straight many weeks ago, I would forward it to you ;)
Glad to hear the swap will continue as always :hurray:
See ya there

Thought I would bump this thread as Hot August Nights kicks off this weekend. I'll be parked in front of the Silver Legacy Casino on Virginia St for the Show & Shines. Look for a Red/White stripe 1968 Z/28. Any TC members, stop by and say hi.

Just a 'heads-up' to any of you heading over I-80 East to Reno for the show:
A.) there is a bunch of read work going on from @Colfax, over Donner summit to Truckee - lots of loose stones so stay back of trucks and cars ...
B.) the CHP is radaring much of this area to enforce the 55mph construction zone limits
C.) the NHP is radaring heavy on the 'downhill' side of I-80 from "Terribles" to @ Boomtown exit in Verdi - they are setting in the center divide around corners, so there is little to no time to react to them
D.) lots of construction on the Nevada side also, so what for closed lanes and slow traffic
E.) construction on the westbound side of I-80 near the new Entry-Check facitlities is slowing traffic returning from Reno to Truckee - may effect your return trip time.

Was just over in Reno again today to help a friend with his car and run some errands - lots of venues getting set-up for HAN activities.
Met up with several at the Pepermill and they are busy setting up all the outdoor displays and tents.
Road next to Atlantis is torn-up due to overhead-walkway to NCC arena construction - this may effect access and exit from Hotel for some.

Weather has been great! Highs are in the very low 90's tops so far this week and predicted to continue through mid next week and least. No rain/thunderstorms in near future predictions.

Give me a shout if there is something you'd like me to expand on or check on.
"I'm here all week" :D

PM me if you need my cell ...

Hey John, how have the police been handling all the thugs and gangbangers this year? They did a good job last year, but more could definitely have been done.
You know, the "Riots" were in 1998 - late at night - and after most of the HAN registered cruises were over.
Yet it still is one of the most discussed topics about HAN ...
The city and HAN organizers hold several open meetings a year prior to the show and discuss crowd control, scheduling and Security & Police support for the whole week along with each individual venue.
HAN actually has a full-time person to organize all the security support. Carol is very skilled at getting the support they need to keep this show a safe one
They bring back-up and support police/Highway Patrol members from all over Nevada, California and a few other states to make sure there is enough enforcement capability. Many of these guys are 'car-guys' and they also enjoy keeping the show quiet and under control ;)
While I've seen some activity at some of the recent years events I didn't care for (drunks, fights and minor gang activity) it is a long way from an out of control event.

Am leaving Wednesday night, will be there on Thursday. Not really a big city guy, are there any places to avoid?
Yeah, downtown Reno :D
Not really, some prefer the 'Sparks' venues, some prefer to spend time over at the Grand Sierra (Hilton) events and many others prefer to stay around the Virginia Street venuse - both the central downtown area and south towards the Peppermill/Atlantis sites (the big auction is across from the Atlantis).
I try to get around most of the venues, but tend to stay in the Virginia Street areas most. Lots of good happenings at both the Peppermill and Atlantis. The downtown hotels have loads of cars, good entertainment, food and the Reno Center (Big Boys Toy Store) is within walking distance to go see lots of vendors and displays of new performance equipemnt.
Summit Racing is a good place to spend some time, lots of diplays, vendors and some performance meets in the evenings.
It's hard not to have a great time and see a ton of vehicles in just a couple days

The only update I have is the weather - they are now predicting that is should begin clouding up Tue/Wed and a chance of Thunderstorms on Wed. evening into Thur.
This really shouldn't be a problem for most as you can always dash into one of the 'inside' venues if the rain starts - and it will usually blow-over in a few hours.

Yup - there are open drags on Fri & Sat at the Fenley/Reno Raceway (northeast of Reno)

Planned on towing the Chevelle to HAN but it wouldn't go on my trailer this morning. So I decided to just drive it. Sounds simple enough, but the wife was going also and the last thing I wanted was to break down somewhere with her in the car. I haven't driven it more than 10 miles or so at a time up to now. It's about 150 miles from my house to the Atlantis where I'm staying, car ran great no issues. I did stop at elevation and re-did the fuel map real quick as it was dead lean up here. Temps never broke 190.

I'll report back when I get home, lots of cars up here.

I just got back from HAN and had alot fun, there are ALOT of cars up there and wish that I could have stayed for the weekend but oh well. I did get an award at the Eldorado / Silver Legacy show-n-shine downtown on Virginia street. It was a real honor to be 1 of 6 cars picked for an award. I saw Jody's car at the Atlantis but did not get the chance to talk to him, beautiful car Jody!

Here's a picture in the winners circle, sorry, can't resist! lol

It was a very nice show... as always. My wife and I headed up there Thursday and came back this morning (Mon.) I'm now on the waiting list to get in. Hopefully I will have the Camaro done by then. I heard it's about 2 years to get in, but could be sooner. Looking forward to it. Met a lot of nice peeps up there and had a great time. I wish I could have met some team members up there but every time we came across a Camaro, there was no owner!! Who was at the cruise at the Grand Sierra Resort? I was there and saw a few Camaros. What were you driving? i can put a face to the car and thus a name from here. What did you think of the cruise being there versus downtown? I thought they should have held up the pedestrian traffic more than the cars.

[quote=loneman;1044622]This is more like Pro touring but all that stuff under the hood was impressive.

I saw that one and talked to the guy after he pulled it in. Sounded impressive, but he was having trouble with tuning. He came up from sea level said it was set up to run about 1200 hp but was capable of 1800.

Anyone go out to the drags at Fernley? That was a kick!
