I was wondering if anyone has ever used repro outer ledge reveal moldings on a 67 or 8 (for those who don't know they are the thick moldings on top of the door and rear quarter window area).

I bought an original set from a guy but they are pretty wavy looking down the side of them. There aren't really many dings they're just really wavy. I was wondering if this is normal considering how hard it would be to stamp something like this without imperfections? Also I was wondering how the repro one's fitment was and if they were wavy as well?

I've reconditioned window moldings and that was a pain in the @$$, I really don't want to have to sit here and block sand for hours when I could just buy some repro stuff and be done. I'm not building a straight show car but I like my stuff to look nice when I look down the side of it.

Thanks for any replies

Repros are bad. I tried to use a set but gave up because they looked so bad. I would have your originals repaired and polished. It will cost more than a repro set but will look 100% bettter.

Good luck.

knocking out dings and polishing is no problem for me to do. My major issue is the overall waviness looking down the side which would be really hard to correct.

What was the problem with the repro's, the fit or the finish?

The metal is thinner and fit not good and that lead to waves also. Correct me if I am wrong but the originals were stainless and the repros are just chrome. Polished stainless looks better. If your originals have not been restored before I think a good repairman can take out the waves. I practically gave away the repro ledge molding at a local swap meet. I have a 68 vert and ran into the same problem with repro well molding. Repro set did not fit like the original and did not look as good. I have my originals repaired and polished. Man, what a difference. I did the same thing on door panel moldings. Restored originals are best.

thanks, that's what I needed to here.

Also, I went to the local chevy parts dealer and compared the new repro's to my originals. They ended up being wavier then the originals that I have and the finish wasn't that nice.
