I lost my body guy and he has the trunk pan cut out, the new pan trimmed but how should it be welded in? Should it be butt welds all around or can the new pan lip lay on top of some of the original sheet metal and be tacked in and blended in by grinding the welds?

It can really be done either way, depending on your preference. I prefer butt welds to lap welds, but again, both will work.

i like to butt weld everything in , it's a personal preference then i would " plug weld " the pan to the rear subframe.
