I'm looking for a decent starting gun(s). I'll be using Nason epoxy primer. Not sure after that.
What do yall think about this set:

Any other comparably priced gun(s) I should look at instead? This 2 gun set is $129

It's a good set, I actually have two sets. However, I prefer a 2.2mm tip for the really thick primers I use.

I have the set and they seem to work pretty good.....They do take alot more air than the old siphon feed guns though....

I'm confused on what would be best for my intial needs. I want to spray the undercarriage and I'll have to do that laying on my back. Seems like I would want a small touch up gun but all of those I see come with 1.0mm nozzle. Can a larger nozzle for primer be used in one of those small guns?
Maybe I just need to concentrate on getting the car jacked up higher for more room.

Devilsiss makes excellent paint guns. I painted cars professionaly for 30 years and learned to paint with a model JGA. For over 20 years I went through 4 JGAs and 2 MDCs until they came out with the HVLP guns and then I purchased a Devilbiss GTi. I do not think you could go wrong with a devilbiss gun.

On one of my posts looking for a cheap gun one member recommended a suction feed type or a gun with the spray pot on the bottom. He said it made it easier to spray up from the bottom as the pot does not get on the way when spraying frames, suspension etc. Just a thought.

Winch, I would use the 1.3 for your epoxy work. Just my 2-cents that 2.2 is really too big for 2k primer's but is what most people like for spraying polyester primer's. I would look for a 1.6- 1.8 for 2k primer.Have you already bought that nason epoxy?I have been using SPI epoxy and been really happy with it.Also maybe look at the pps cup and liners from 3m they can be used even upside down as long as you pull trigger and suck down liner to get extra air out of liner.Joe

How about ATD brand and this starter kit: http://www.tptools.com/p/988,61_ATD-Air-HVLP-Spray-Gun-Set.html.

Can I use one of those little touch up guns with 1.0 nozzle to do the small areas underneath in both epoxy and then topcoat with Chassis Saver? Can I put a bigger nozzle on the touch up gun?

Winch, I really don't feel a 1.0 is big enough tip for what you need. The smallest I'd use would be a 1.2 I have a sata mini jet with a 1.2 and works good. I also don't know if the tip out of the larger gravity feed gun would interchange If i were to guess I'd say no.Joe

I kinda figured that 1.0 was too small. Makes me wonder what those little guns are used for.

Winch, Those 1.0 tips are usually good for spot and finesse work and mirror's. Joe

Hi Winch

You might want to try this combo, It gives you a HVLP and a LVLP in an Astro brand. They are rated good it seems from everyone and it would give you a taste of both types of guns. It only $148 and includes free shipping.

Joe, I have already bought the Nason although I haven't opened it and the guy said I could exchange it. He only offered it or Dupont and there was a huge difference in the price of a gallon. I don't know any of them yet but seems like plenty of folks have had good results with Nason and there are a few threads with problems with SPI epoxy although that's probably been corrected. What is the pps cup and liners? I bought a box of generic liners at HF.

Winch, The pps liner+tops are made by 3m. The #16000 kit sell for $75.00-$80.00 for a box of 50.They aren't cheap but save alot time with cleanup and amount thinner needed to clean guns.I really like the spi epoxy over anything out there. I can't give any input on the nason epoxy but I have used the glasurit and the r-m epoxy and spi hands down out performs them.I know spi has had some issues but everything is good now. Most of the time when a major paint company like ppg changes their formula's on products you don't always hear all the issues they have and believe me ppg has had them too.talk to ya later Joe.
