: Aluminum body panels at Ricks?

Has anyone seen the aluminum panels advertised in the Ricks catalog? I just noticed them in there. No price, no mention on availability. It looks like, if I'm reading it right that most of the front end and decklids are being made? They say there is significant weight savings with them.

I'm just a little curious about these, if one had to buy all this sheetmetal and was not building a rare original car and say price was comparable. No rust issues--better fuel mileage(at $5 per gal.) with the less weight. I wonder how they would rate structurally with they steel counterpart?

Looking for any input at all please, especially if you have bought or seen these panels.

Thanks!

One downside is that aluminum is much more malleable than steel. As such, I would imagine it dents much easier. Also, if they require any significant work to make fit you could also be looking at buying a TIG or converting your MIG over to aluminum.

I'd be very interested in price as I'll be buying my front end components very shortly.

Travis, I have seen them at the last Camaros an Carlisle. They look exactly like the steel versions by the way they are made. They have all the same bracing and such. Kelly and the guys there let me compare the weights by picking them up and originals. Wow what a differance! They said the parts will come edp coated and ready to paint (I guess bare alum is hard to prep?) I did not get prices as it was not determined when I was there.

Thanks Scott,

What panels did you see? Are they doing fenders? and were they only 69 or are they planning on doing other years?

I don't currently see the Al panels on their site. Does anyone know if they offer a 2" cowl hood?

I will bring my catalog home with me tomorrow and post exactly what it says. But Im pretty sure the answer is yes. I think the hood (actually 2 hood options), decklid, fenders and extensions, upper and lower valance. I will double check for sure though.

Travis, they had all the front sheetmetal including the stock looking cowl hood, both bumpers and a decklid. Very impressive! I'm going to Carlisle next week and will get an update on prices. Here is a pic from last year....
