: Add Headrests in 68 seats
gene_sc Jun 8th, 08, 12:21 PM Looking to add headrest to 68 seats....
I know most of the needed parts are available except the white plastic guide that goes inside the seat back( the post of the headrest slides into). Has anyone ran into any other issues? Any source for the white plastic guides in the seat back? Should the headrests be a "straight" bar style?
bertfam Jun 8th, 08, 01:20 PM 68 parts aren't being repopped yet. Only 69 parts. To add headrests to a 68 is next to impossible since they were a totally different animal than the 69 headrests. You can read THIS (http://www.camaros.org/headrest.shtml) to see what you're getting into.

gene_sc Jun 8th, 08, 02:31 PM Guess I should have stated customer does not care if 69 style is used. (I figured that org 68 would be next to impossible to locate). I know the seat back frames are the same, so the 69 parts should fit. Was hoping to find the plastic guides that the headrest bar slides into.
Thanks for the link, good info on ID parts.
68fan Jun 13th, 08, 03:47 PM i bought 69 seats on ebay ($150), new 68 seat foam (Ricks), head rest covers (Ricks) and had an upholstery shop put the seat covers back on for another $150. I tried to do it myself but its kind of like putting a poncho back in its case.
blue ss Jun 14th, 08, 06:34 AM I added 69 head rests in my 67 seats, I could not find the inserts myself. I used the hole in the bottom of the repop head rest shaft for a mounting hole and drilled one extra for keeping it straight. A couple of washers bolted to the frame and wala. I cant adjust mine tho. I permenatly locked them 1/3 the way up. Sorry no pics
gro51 Jun 14th, 08, 07:43 AM Gene - I have one '69 bucket with headrest sitting in my garage. PM me if interested.
okiemark Jun 14th, 08, 12:07 PM as far as being practicle, how often do you use the head rest? Even in your regular driver.
68fan Jul 1st, 08, 11:49 AM You hope you don't need them. I see them as a safety factor. I should help reduce whiplash in the event of a rear end collision!

That headrest is more important than you think. Low back seats will do nothing but more damage to you possibly if in a collision. Think about it, your upper back/neck has no support...
Guest174 Jul 1st, 08, 05:28 PM Gene,
found the white plastic guides in the Classic Industries catalog.
Guest174 Jul 1st, 08, 06:37 PM Gene,
My apologies, those guides are for 82-84.
