Old baldguy Jun 12th, 08, 12:04 PM Humble ,wish I had time lunch is over,do a search on that ,S/B lots of info or wait someone can help wish I had time sorry Happy Motoring 67CamaroRS/SS Jun 12th, 08, 12:28 PM I am contemplating the same process as you. First, what type of manual are you going to(T-56, Tko-600, Muncie 4-spd)? Is the automatic out of the car yet? If you go on Classic Chevy 5 Speed's website, they have a list of authorized installers. I have been conversing with a guy and it was looking somewhere around 4K for the swap, not including purchasing the manual tranny and misc. parts. They make direct bolt in kits for the TKO-600(5 speed) and I believe they make bolt in kits for the T-56(6 speed) as well, but I think the T-56 does require some extra work. The TKO-600 kits, if you purchase the offset shifter, requires NO CUTTING OR WELDING of the original car AT ALL, provided the center of the car hasn't drooped over the years. If that has happened, I was told to place a 4 x 4 on a jack and jack it up a little at a time until the droop is gone. If at all possible, I would do the install yourself with a buddy or two and save yourself some money. I am going to do the very same. I have been told that the guys at Classic Chevy 5 Speed(now called Classic Motorsports Group) are very helpful and very knowledgeable with the installation of their kits and are more than willing to assist you with each and every call. Old baldguy Jun 12th, 08, 02:09 PM Guy's other than the hole for the clutch ,and cutout for the shifter ,( and all that info is here at T/C and Classic ,its so simple a caveman can do it:D , Classic has all the tech you will need no need to spend to have someone else do Harbor Fright Tools has a slick Trans jack for 99.00 tilts foward /aft side to side made that part so easy other than the price for the Elite kit to your door aprox 4,000 ,you are out the jack 99.00 ,I just got donre doing mine TKO600 ,Tech from GMJim at Classic was 2nd to none I called him several times, and they had the best price.(Did my homework 1st) I think they also have T56 kits also ,I wouldn't even do a 4speed thing as you are limited to almost no freeway driving if you got or go with 3.5 and lower gears(unless you are going Stock ) anyway I suggest you call Classic and talk to Jeff ,Scott or Tech GMJim ,I am just tring to help and save you guys $$$$$$ Happy Motoring:) http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc96/tamjss/68Camarobrakes45-12-08009.jpg Old baldguy Jun 12th, 08, 02:15 PM http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc96/tamjss/68Camarobrakes45-12-08005.jpg humbleboy Jun 13th, 08, 09:25 AM thanks guys for your professional advice. I do want to get a manual in there (i.e. 5spd or 6spd). I need about $15K to finish my car. Wife wanted a new roof. So to save our marriage we got the roof first. She did say that I could buy a sports car valued up to one year of my salary. I told her I wanted a 69 Z/28 - #s matching, DZ302, etc... I ended up settling for a $7500 heap (not my yearly salary). Really need to do an off the frame restoration. Thanks again. Will checkout Classic Motorsports Group. humbleboy 67sprtcp Jun 13th, 08, 03:07 PM What about an auto overdrive ? Shifting gets old in heavy traffic. I have a muncie. shaunmlavery Nov 11th, 08, 01:48 PM yeah, shifting gets old in rush hour traffic but you can't replace that feeling. I hate my th350 sometimes because it doesn't "know" how I want to drive. My 535is is more fun to drive, as far as trannmissions go. If I had some extra cash laying around, you better believe my '67 would be rockin a t56. I have always wanted one of those. I feel like going to a junkyard now. South Side Goons & Hitmen Nov 12th, 08, 03:03 AM I spoke w/ GM Jim a little over year ago about a TKO600 for my car. He was very knowledgeable, helpful and demonstrated class over the phone. Ultimately I was torn between a Gear Vendors Over Drive and a TKO600. Things changed at work (slowed down) and I had to hold off on the TKO600 or GV OD. Since I have a ST-10 4 speed in my car I would probably go the TKO600 route. The website is www.classicchevy5speed.com check it out!! |
