Yes, this thread is worthless without pics, I know. As you can tell from my user name, I have a '67 Chevelle, currently under construction. A friend told me about the '68 Camaro RS/SS & he's not interested (tto many projects already). It's torn apart, frame off, body in primer & repairs completed. It comes with everything, motor, 4sp tranny, & includes a new interior. The guy is asking $10k.

Before I go look at it, I wanted to ask what I should look for, etc, etc...

Thanks in advance.

Yep, you will have to find out if it has Original Multi Leaf 12-bolt, P8 Muncie, Matching number or nom engine. 68 are tough to decode and easy to clone.

10K would be fair because the car is in pieces but no more than that. Even if it is a real RS/SS if you could prove it.

From what you describe it sounds like he may have more than 10k into in already.

Look for Yenko emblems.

I hear this alot, usually from non 68 owners.
I wonder if Jerry MacNeish charges more to decode a 68 because they are so tough to decode?
Personally, I think he should charge less because there is no need to decode and authenticate the trim tag, so it's less work to properly decode a 68.

Just had my 68 RSSS BB certified/appraised by Jerry MacNeish and to my knowledge he charged me the same. Trust me, he goes over the car with a fine tooth comb :) Guess that is why I paid him.

$10K seems reasonable, especially if the body work is complete and done correctly. Good luck!

Agreed - If you add up bodywork ($7k on my car) Interior ($2-3K) and all of the reuse parts, that sounds reasonable...

Jerry does not "decode," he "authenticates".....big difference. Since 68 is harder to authenticate, you could argue that he should charge MORE.

Look for Yenko emblems.

What about that car makes you suspect possible Yenko conversion?

Thanks for all the help guys. It definitely gives me something to think about. If I decide to buy it, I'll probably wait a bit until I get my '67 Malibu closer to being on the road. i don't need another project right now!
