This Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21 there will be a Pure Stock and F.A.S.T. (stock appearing) drag meet at Martin Michigan at the US131 Dragway. These cars look like restored show cars but you won't find them parked in the shade with their owners sitting in lawn chairs. They will be racing, the way they were meant to be. There will be time trials and qualifying runs on Friday and elimination runs on Saturday. The Pure Stocks run a best ~two out of three~ against the car that qualified closest to their time. The F.A.S.T. cars run a ~heads up eliminator bracket~ no break out, some cars with e.t.'s as low as 10.50's, all on reproduction skinny Firestone Wide Ovals and Goodyear Polyglas tires. Cars are American and Canadian models, produced from 1955 thru 1974, through exhaust manifolds and maximum 2 1/2" full exhaust systems. Most all brands will be represented, Chevrolet, Buick, Olds, Pontiac, AMC, Ford, Mercury, Dodge, Plymouth and even Studebaker. Looks like there will be beautiful weather for Friday and Saturday. I'm going, I wouldn't miss this one or the September race in Stanton Michigan. If you're anywhere close, like within two or three states away, you might want to make it if at all possible.
