I'm building a 69 396 375 engine and wanted to make sure I had the right size valves installed. I'm pretty sure it's 2.19 & 1.88. I was told different. Could someone clear this up for me?
Thanks Team Camaro :beers:

Now I have the right size in mind 1.72 The next question I have how much will people frown on installing 1.88 insteat of factory size? I will need to replace the seats because of some rust issues if I use the 1.72 valves.

Who will know without a teardown?Heck, why not slam in 2.250 intakes as well. You already have a head that has no place on anything under 500 cid or a high winding 7k 427..so lets make it it a bigger dog down low over 396 cid.if your hell bent on a building a 396 with 840,s...consider this an rpm engine.Cyl fill down low will be miserable with that large by huge rectangular port.

Install the 1.84" exhaust valves instead of the 1.88" and go, imho.

You'll need to replace the exhaust seatas if you go with 1.88" valves, too. Plus you'll have to buy new valves. I'd recommend staying with the 1.72" and go. As mentioned, those head ports are really too large for a 396 anyhow.
