View Full Version : 1969 Z28 Project and 1969 X-44 Project LOTS OF PICS
Fuzzyhall Jun 18th, 08, 02:31 PM Hey guys I have had these cars on here before but have MUCH better pictures. Here is the info on the cars:
69' (dark green)--> 12-bolt, was a original Z (owner says he is guranteed it is but no X code), Power Disc, Tach (6000), Woodgrain dash, Deluxe Seat Belts, needs floors, trunk, front metal, and a RESTO. Was originally a fathom green car.
69' (lighter green)--> The car sold on ebay last month for around $1800 but the buyer never came through with the sale. It was a garnet red X44 car (why would there only be one paint code number for the exterior and none for the interior?). Was in a small front end collision which is why the sheetmetal is in the car not on it. Needs a TOTAL resto.
Suprisingly both cars doors open and shut very nicely My intentions would be to drag them out, make them rolling and somewhat complete and sell them. What is the MAX you would be willing to pay for each car?
ChevyThunder Jun 18th, 08, 03:49 PM The "Z" looks like it has small bumper guards . I know a Z could have no tach, a 7k tach on an early car or an 8k tach .I am not sure about a 6k tach so someone comment... I could be confused on that point. It would be nice to have some detailed photos.
Fuzzyhall Jun 18th, 08, 05:12 PM Thanks for the input Thunder. The person who I bought the car from says it was/is a Z for sure. He has had it for over 20 years and bought it from the original owner (forgot his name but knows the town he lives in). It seems to have some really nice options but would be hard to prove it is a Z for sure.
Nevertheless it is a nice project that would be pretty finished!
any figures on these cars?
travlinz28 Jun 18th, 08, 10:31 PM The car has the early tach. Redline starts at 6K and ends at 7K. That would jive with no X code if it is a Norwood car.
My opinion is that both cars are worth the sum of their usable parts. Maybe 4-5K for the "Z" and $1500 for the other one. I really don't see a restoration happening with either one of them. It's a shame to part a Z but....
cjm465 Jun 19th, 08, 05:42 AM Did you check for the chalk mark behind the back seat on the Z? If still there it may be a good clue.

I plan on gutting the interior when I get it home. I hope there are some signs left that lean towards a Z. It is a shame to let these cars sit and waste like that!

Eric Kammerer Jun 21st, 08, 07:42 PM Small bumper guards, and is it a wide spoiler? It is an early car, so it could have come w/o spoilers, but... Does it at least have the Muncie speedo cable? How about a tire sticker?

In the glove box? There is the sticker from the dealership where it was purchased (Breesse Chevrolet in Liverpool NY) and they said they don't have any docs that reacgh back that far :(
Can I track the previous owners through the DMV?
How do I tell if it's a muncie speedo cable?
wagonman Jun 22nd, 08, 12:36 AM take a picture of the muncie speedo hole thru the firewall.
take a picture of the back of the z emblem on the grille.
Fuzzyhall Jun 22nd, 08, 01:06 PM Will these pictures work?
Eric Kammerer Jun 22nd, 08, 01:19 PM Well, it has the Muncie speedo cable there next to the wiper motor. I have no idea what John is looking for on the back of the Z emblem.
But the Muncie is good news, IDs car as at least an SS350. If it is a single fuel line and has 26 coil hood springs, you can add that to the list of clues that point to it being a real Z. Of course without the DZ or paperwork, you can't say 100%, but...
X33D80 Jun 22nd, 08, 01:27 PM Does it have 4-leaf rear leaf springs?
Fuzzyhall Jun 22nd, 08, 01:37 PM Does it have 4-leaf rear leaf springs?
Yes it does
Kermi Jun 22nd, 08, 01:39 PM looks like single fuel line in the picture...
Fuzzyhall Jun 22nd, 08, 02:42 PM here are some pictures I took today
Are deluxe seat/shoulder belts rare?
What are the mount looking devices on the leaf spring mount? is that for traction bars?
The rosewood cleaned up beautifully
Eric Kammerer Jun 22nd, 08, 02:56 PM You mean as shown on the sixth pic? That is a multi-leaf shock plate.
Fuzzyhall Jun 22nd, 08, 03:03 PM You mean as shown on the sixth pic? That is a multi-leaf shock plate.
Yea, the 6th. Thats the one with the bolt/washer and mount plate under the leaf mount on the left hand side?
X33D80 Jun 22nd, 08, 04:16 PM I am no expert or the final authority but I think you got yourself a Z/28.

Yes. I guess if you've only had 67s or mono-leaf cars, you may not recognize a multi-leaf anchor plate with the shock mounting stud (if thats a bolt and not a stud, someone may have had the wrong shocks mounted on it).
thorpe67RS Jun 22nd, 08, 05:26 PM Purchased in upstate ny and still resides there i assume. Unfortunately it looks like a life long upstate ny car. Gonna take a lot of work to bring that one back.
