My last post didn't do too well so let me ask this another way. I don't want to use the universal mounting system that comes with the Hurst Competition Plus shifter to mount it to my Muncie M21. I know the '69's had a plate that allows the shifter to mount directly to the transmision and I believe this would work for the '67-'68's as well. Does anyone know if these are still sold and if not what the part is called or the part number for it so I can try to find it on ebay?

They stock shift mount is available at all the repro houses. Its about $160 if I remember what I paid for mine.

Look it up on the Mr Gasket (Hurst) site. They have a mounting kit with the rods for it. Once you get the part number, order it from Summit.

The correct Hurst Competition Plus shifter mount plate for the 67-68 Camaro is not a
universal mounting system. It looks like one because it is a big plate compared to the OEM 1969 Hurst mount plate but should work fine.

The OEM 1969 Hurst mount plate will locate the shifter in a different position then the 67-68 Hurst plate and may give you a problem if you have a 67-68 console.

That's the part I never really understood, though I do know it to be true.

Fact: 68 & 69 use the exact same console. 67 is different. (they also use the same subframe, crossmember, engine and trans mounts, transmission, & driveshaft.)
Fact: 67 & 68 did not have a hurst shifter available from the factory, 69 did.
Fact: The aftermarket hurst mounting kits for 68 & 69 are different.
Fact: The aftermarket Hurst shifter (which includes the stick) is the same for 68 & 69.

I used an aftermarket 69 mounting kit when I had a muncie in my 68. I had to move the console back 1" for clearance, the stick hit the back of the console trim plate in 2nd & 4rth.

I've never understood why there is a diference and what exactly it is.

This (http://www.rickscamaros.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=CP%2D69&dept%5Fid=3526) is the one I used for my application, I bought the whole kit including linkage. Sad to say one of the linkage pivots was cross threaded onto the bar. No idea how someone could accomplish that. I picture them getting out a tap and tapping it at a angle?

Jim, the Hurst shifter is the same 67-69 but the chrome stick is different for 67-68 vs 69
67-68 is #4106
69 is #7436

The 67-68 mounting plate looks like it locates the shifter higher on the trans vs the 69 mount plate locates the shifter lower and more toward the rear of trans

OK, then, what I ran on my 68 when it had a muncie was a 68 aftermarket shifter with a 69 mounting kit. I screwed up when I bought the stuff, and didn't know it for years after.

Still using the 4106 stick with my TKO, fits perfect with console in stock location.

I know the Hurst Shifter that I have for my 68 requires the use of a u-clamp on the back of the transmission. I would think based on that, the side mount bracket must be different from a 69.

For what its worth?
