Need to put a new clutch in my Z28. The zz502 roasted my old RAM OEM within a week http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/images/smilies/rollinglaugh.gif

Trans is a Muncie M22. I may eventually swap it out for a TKO600.

Keep in mind I may eventually do some top end upgrades to the motor to bring it upwards of 600hp...

I'm not opposed to any brand so lets leave it up to a Poll.

I like my centerforce df clutch. Nice and easy and grabs like a sob. Centerforce said it needs to be broken in for about 500 miles before you beat on it.

I use a Spec stage 3 which is a 6 padle disc and is easy on you leg but works very well. This is on a 574hp/546 lb 383.

I have a RAM Clutch in my car. The clutch was in the vehicle when I purchased it. It's a sintered iron clutch as this thing was about to become a full blown race car before I bought it. Sintered iron material allows a limited amount of slip when you engage it in so that you don't over power (incenerate) the back tires on small tire cars. I don't work for RAM but alot of the guys I've spoken with in the race scene love RAM Clutches. Here is RAM's website decribing which disc is what. I have the 979 disc in my car http://www.ramclutches.com/Products/clutch_discs.htm This is RAM's home page. http://www.ramclutches.com These guys dominate alot of the racing scence.

What is the difference between RAM and Centerforce?

I remember reading this quote from a professional racer recently in a magazine. I think RAM may have this on their website so save me the hate mail. "Centerforce relies on centrifugal assist which is also known as additional plate loading as your engine RPM increases in order to add holding power to the clutch. RAM clutches in most cases will use either higher static plate loads or more aggressive friction materials to increase the hold. This is very important because the bulk of a street engine’s torque load is generated at RPMs under 5000. Centrifugal assist doesn't even begin to factor in, until about 6000 RPM"--------My question is R ya gonna drive it over 6k RPM on the street? Probably not too often, LOL!

My 2 cents-----Chicago guys (South Siders) dominated the 10.5" tire racing scene in the early to mid 1990's before alot of them walked away for one reason or another. As they told me back then when I was a kid, even if it's not a race car and in the street car or oval track mind, they would rather have something built to withstand something King Kong & Godzilla would throw at it then something else. Last but not least I've had friends back in the early 1990's use Centerforce. I prefered to run a FMRPVB THM400 back then. I'm not gonna take out the 4 speed or the RAM set up in this car any time soon unless I go w/ a TKO 600. It's been 2 years since I bought this car. I've rekindled alot of friendships from well over a decade ago. The car has come a long way and so have I in my way of thinking. I thank many of the people on this site for helping me learn a thing or two along the way. God Bless all U guys!

I guess you know which clutch set up I voted for. The one that dominates! and that's RAM!

Thanks!

I'm running the Centerforce DF for about 3k miles, and it kicks A$$!

I have BB with about 550ftlbs, just threw a set of AFR 305's on, hopefully 575-600HP. Last times at the strip, I made about a dozen runs each time. With ET streets and dead hooking, clutch did just fine on this 4000 lbs car. Didnt even make a smell. And pedal pressure is very light making it a delight to drive.

Hey, for 300.00, how can you go wrong??

I voted for the RST street twin. I'm waiting for one of that clutch for my Camaro. I have the street/strip Mcleod that comes with the CC5S kit and before the Procharger it was great. But since the Procharger's there now, its toast... Have you looked at that one yet?
